This monument is located on Parliament Hill, to the back right of the parliament. It consist of five ladies, some drinking tea and one of them holding a newspaper saying that women are persons. There is also some information about the monument and the women. This information is written in both english and french.

This is a beautifully designed statue of women who believed in the rights of some to vote. All travellers should honour their work by visiting this monument on Parliament Hill.

Tip: this area is a must see in Ottawa. You can visit the Parliament buildings for free, there are organized tours and you just have to book in advance (tourist office across the parliament). The famous five monument is my fav. It honors the 5 women that asked the Supreme Court to clarify if women were persons.

Went on a walking tour of downtown Ottawa that featured Canada's heroes and this was one of the stops. The kids acted out the scene depicted here and enjoyed learning about these ladies

Just to the right as you face the Parliament building, this monument honors an interesting piece of the history of womens' rights in Canada. Having gained the right to vote in 1919, the courts still had to decide if a woman was a person.

It's a thrill to see the history of real women who graded the pathways for present day encouragement of accomplished women. The monument is an apt celebration.
