Both the canal (reviewed separately) and the river parkway are a great place for running or biking. You can start at the locks between parliament and the Chateau Laurier and instead of heading up along the canal instead head down towards the river. The bike path then follows the river all the way out to the far west end of... More

A great place for a walk or cycle right by the river and runs for 300km so if you really wanted you could go all the way to Toronto.

During two stays we have biked the Ottawa River Parkway extensively, connecting to the Voyageurs Parkway in Gatineau. It is pleasant for walking, biking, and skating, but we use it for transportation getting into and out of the city. The Parkway allows us to avoid driving and paying through the nose for parking in downtown Ottawa. Because we camp at... More

Recently visited and roller-bladed/biked some of the parkway. I think the river side trails offer some of the best views of parliament and the major landmark anywhere in the city! Great place to spend the day and see the city.

Well paved paths along the Ottawa River, lots of parking, playgrounds, beaches, and direct access to downtown, sites and Byward Market area. Lots of free parking along the pathway - park and ride!

Centre town Ottawa always seems to be under construction and the congestion likewise seems to increase accordingly. If you need to drive west and you don't want the stop and go traffic of the major arterials, try a scenic drive on the Ottawa River Parkway. Not only is it a beautiful drive along the Ottawa River but it is much... More

We would do it again. Excellent bikes were rented for 4 hours. On Sunday mornings, the Colonel By Parkway is closed to motor vehicles and only allows bicyclers, roller bladders, etc. My Mom and I biked the Rideau Canal on Colonel By Parkway to HogsBack and the falls and then returned by the Arboretum and Dows Lake to the Parliamentary... Rented bikes and had a wonderful couple of hours riding safely on the paths. We rode along the locks and the river.
