Must See

You must watch the changing of the guard if you go to Ottawa. It lasts about 1/2 hour and is very nice. We saw it just before our tour of Parliament. Both are musts.

It was really hot and humid. Too long ceremony. Nowhere to hide from the sun and the heat, nowhere to sit.

It's beautiful to see and watch, I remember I went a couple years ago, and I barely heard anything from the crowd. It was like looking back in time almost, and we felt their concentration. There was an energy around everyone that was beautiful.

All the pomp and circumstance you'd expect, although it does run a bit long - hard to keep kids interested throughout. We were able to stand right along the path where they entered/exited, so had a great view. A must-see while in Ottawa!

Nice to watch and brought back memories of our own changing of the Guard. Beautiful sculpture of soldiers pulling a wagon in WWI in the background of the tomb.

WOW! Who knew Canada had such great symbolism. You can get a really close-up look by being on Elgin Street as the guards march from the armories up to Parliament Hill. Then follow the procession for more picture taking on the Hill. It is magnificent. Makes you proud to be Canadian.

Only because I am English, it seemed absurd/ridiculous to watch soldiers dressed as they are in front of Buckingham Palace, enacting this ritual/ceremony in Canada. Despite the Commonwealth links between countries, it felt wrong. However the non-English people watching loved it...

Make sure when you visit Ottawa in the summer to take in the changing of the guard ceremony. Something to not be missed. Simply fantastic for young and old alike.

It gave me chills to see the guard marching down to the square in front of the parliament buildings and then when the bagpipes started, well that was the ultimate thrill. It made me proud to say i am Canadian.

Don't know how many times a day it occurs but the changing of the guard is worth showing young children. Even as Americans, showing how another country honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice is worth sticking around to see.
