A great place to be tourists in our own city. Enjoyed learning about the history of the building and the grounds, as well as the role of Governor General in Canada. The grounds are the loveliest in the city.

Went here for open doors ottawa. There was no entry fee on that day. Not sure if there is normally. Pros - The grounds are really expansive and pretty - great place to walk or relax - Interesting history / information in the building - The circus tent room was also intrigueing to see Cons - It's not close to... I loved the grounds, and on a summers day it is very relaxing to walk around looking at the famous names of people who have planted trees. I found the guided tour of the Governors house to be a little artificial and not time well spent. As you are also allowed to tour on your own at certain times if... More

The grounds are beautiful and worth a short visit. There is also a small changing of the guard ceremony every hour (I believe), though don't expect anything like the pomp on Parliament Hill. I also opted for the tour of Rideau Hall. The tour guide was knowledgeable and presented information about the building, the office of the Governor General and... More

try and visit when open day and allowed to take photos inside. Magnificent rooms and furniture, huge grounds, cricket pitches nearby - unexpected sight!

I am very happy that I took the time to visit Rideau Hall. The grounds are beautiful, with some 10,000 trees. You’ll probably see one planted by a person you know – Queen Elizabeth II, for example. Plaques mark many of the trees and indicate who planted them and gives the species. I saw a fox on the grounds –... More

This was my first visit with a tour, and as a former teacher, I was very impressed with our cheerful and knowledgeable guide, Myriam. The home of the Governor General is understated, but grand, with many lovely portraits and Canadian landscape paintings. The free, 45 minute tour is well worth the time. You will come away better informed about Canada's... More

On the weekends there is open house at Rideau Hall and its free. This mansion has wonderful paintings, artifacts, period furnishings and historical photos. The guides are knowledgeable about all aspects of the mansion. The grounds are open daily and well worth visiting. The changing of the guard takes place hourly and is worthwhile watching. One woman said it was a... More

The tour of Rideau Hall is very interesting and the guides have a wealth of knowledge. This is a great piece of Canadian heritage. Even if you don't want to go on the tour, I'd recommend going just to tour the grounds. It truly is a beautiful place. (A particular favourite for me was seeing which foreign dignitaries planted which... More

So nice to have a free tourist destination and such informative guides. the public rooms of the governor are sumptuous and some of the art and furniture is beautiful and historically relevant. The portrait gallery is a bit pretentious but the other artworks are great and representative of Canadian artists.. The lawns and gardens are also perfectly maintained and symbolic... More
