As an American, I wanted to take a gander as to what all of this Governor General's residence was all about as it had a lot to do with the country's constitutional monarchy. Obtaining a tour wasn't a big deal even though they were demanding you get a reservation ahead of time. I inquired about a reservation, but they said... More

The tour of the Residence gives a lot of history applicable to young and old. The one down-side, we all commented on, was the room that has the medals. It has an echo and it is difficult to hear the tour guide. It is fun to walk the grounds and see who planted the trees. You can bring a picnic... More

The tour is fairly short, you only see a very few 'public' rooms. Lots of great art, especially portraits of former GG's, interesting to see how portraiture has changed over the eyars. A good explanation buy the (new) guide of how the building grew from the original house.

Visitors are not allowed to take picture in the building, not allowed to walk freely. I understand it is a guided tour, but at least let people take some picture. The Parliament allows visitors to tale picture, why not Rideau Hall.

Hello, Thank you for your comment. We do have certain hours of "Open House" during the summer, during which visitors can walk through the state rooms at their own pace and ask questions to the guides. Pictures are also permitted during that time. Considering that Rideau Hall is the home and workplace of the Governor General, certain security measures have... More

A place of history of all the Govern Generals. You can go for walks at the parks, they have many events in the park like Teddy bear picnic etc... It is free and a good time to go is during July 1 our national birthday Canada day! :) Good for all for the family and friends. Try it out!

Did not get the opportunity to visit much of Rideau Hall. It was late in the day. We toured the grounds, looked at the outside of the house and read much of the history associated with the mansion. Interesting to see the numerous trees that have been planted by many politicians and dignitaries over many decades.

If ever you are in the neighborhood, I recommend a stop at the governor house. The garden is huge with several trees planted by different personalities.

After years of coming to Ottawa, we decided to play tourist and visit Rideau Hall. Since it was early in the year we needed reservations to tour during the week. One quick phone call and reservations were set up for later the same day. We were not disappointed in the tour. This is a beautiful working residence and one that... More
