this was quite enjoyable with lots of descriptive scenes to stir the imagination. ...some factual history as well. an easy walk conducted by Queens students in the black hooded garb with a lantern for effect. Well done

What a great place to visit. Prison life seems real here. It's free but they accept donations at the door.

Kingston Penitentiary was opened in 1835 and remained in use until September 2013. It was constructed by the inmates using limestone from the local quarry's. The tour guide that accompanied our group is an Assistant Warden at a nearby Institution but had previuosly worked at "K.P". During my career as a Police Officer I had occasion to attend K.P. on... Had a great tour of the Kingston Penitentiary. This lasted over two hours and left only a short time to visit the Museum across the road. The limited time we had has made us determined to return.

We actually spent over an hour in this small museum reading and thoroughly looking at everything. There was a lovely gentleman minding the museum whose father had been a prison guard and he shared a great deal... More

We were fortunate enough to get a woman who had been the actual warden for 7 years!!! She provided all sorts of interesting information, and a surprise to me was her compassionate viewpoint! A part of life one doesn't see, and hopes not to, but it is interesting to know a bit about it.

The museum is small, but that's beneficial because you feel like you can see everything without being overwhelmed. The exhibits are well laid out through an old house and the written commentary provides helpful explanations of an interesting part of Canada's past and present. You probably won't spend more than an hour here, but it's an enjoyable hour.
