Best Ride in Town

Do take the Ferry.. Very cheap and you get to see both cities. Get off in Dartmouth, take a walk around and get back on. No better deal for your money!!

Friends from Dartmouth took us on the ferry. What a fun ride. It's short, but delightful!! If you come back within 2 hours the return trip is free, but only if you get a paper receipt when you buy your ticket over. We'll be doing this again. Guaranteed.

The ferry is SO inexpensive - plus it runs frequently, and if you're a senior it's free! The transfers last a good long time (two hours) so you can go over and back on one fare. From Halifax, go across to Alderney and check out the triangular Peace Memorial at the waterfront on the Dartmouth side (among other things it... More

This is a government run ferry from Dartmouth to Halifax. A few dollars gives you a great ride to see both sides of this beautiful city. I hope they don't read this, yet they could easily charge tourists 4-5 times the price of the ride and no one would complain.

This is a good way for tourists to get a cheap harbour tour. New transfer rules would allow passenger to go over and back on a transfer without paying second fare (that used to be the rule a few years ago - very unaccomodating ) now one could actually go to Dartmouth on one ferry and take a bus to... Just go for it! On a sunny day, stay up on top and soak up the view. If it is raining, cage one of the seats down front and watch the world go by.

I'm not a big fan of traveling by boat but the Halifax ferry is wonderful. A nice way to travel if you need to be in Dartmouth.

For the price of a bus ticket you get a relaxing 15 minutes in Halifax harbour, with a great view of the city. At certain hours of the day you can also do a circuit: take the ferry to Woodside one way, walk the footpath along the harbourfront to downtown Dartmouth, stop at the Celtic Corner Pub, and then take...
