Of course it is a great ship with lots of history. We were given a map and the Bluense 2 was not in the listed location. After driving around and finally locating it behind some old warehouses, we found it docked and nobody around but a handful of tourists. Wasn't able to get a great photo. Some people were walking... Make sure you stay overnight in one of the lovely inns or BandBs in downtown Lunenburg, tour the maritime museum, and get as close to the Bluenose II as you can. She is still be refitting and security is somewhat tight.....the masts/rigging were not installed when I wats there...but she is the progeny of a long line of great schooners......and... More

We were fortunate to be in Halifax when the refitted Bluenose II was launched. Not a big splash, but a slow (very slow) slide into the water on a cradle. An excellent musical performance in the evening.

Visiting family in Nova Scotia, Canada in Jan. 2012. We were not expecting to travel to Lunenburg on the early morning that we set out for Peggy's Cove, but one thing led to another and there we were, in a historic maritime town where we learned that the Bluenose II was being re-fitted and would be re-launched in 2012. We... More

The Bluenose II is a beautiful ship for us sailor to visit. It had just been relaunched and was being fitted out. Hopefully the masts will be stepped in the next week. Work on the interior was still underway. We inquired about chartering her for a family retreat. We have done that before with other ships.

the schooner is to be launched Sept. 28 with lots of celebration... we were in Nunenburg to just walk the town and have lunch but were told that the Bluenose ll is here and being restored so we took a short walk to see the progress and visit the office of information on the schooner... this interest gave us the... Bluenose 2 was being restored; currently no masts so not much to look at right now. Small museum and staff available to explain what work is underway.

This is, of course, the Bluenose 11, replica of the famous racing schooner built and sailed out of Lunenburg. The original Bluenose was Christened in 1921 as .a fishing vessel but her speed was soon to become her pride, She was defeated in the inaugural Sir Thomas Lipton International Fishing Challenge Cup by perhaps her most celebrated competitor, the Gertrude...
