We went on Saturday, July 30th and it was an "extreme" tide day. Our guide was Al, and he was great! the waves were big and rough, we had a couple of headbangers in the boat. Mud Sliding and River Floating completed the morning. Fed as many burgers, dogs, potato chips and pop we could ingest.

We arrived outside of Maitland just as the tide was rising. As we crossed over the bridge the river bed was dry with a few puddles here and there. By the time we parked our car at the Observation Point and walked to the observation deck, the tide was rapidly rising. Then, the river rafters came for a thrill ride....

If you are up for a bit of adventure, ride the tidal bore on a zodiac with Subenacadie River Runners in Maitland, Nova Scotia. Our guide, Miranda, was extremely competent. We rafted with "Shubenacadie Tidal Bore Rafting Park" and stayed in their cottages one night.
The rafting was a highlight of the whole 2-week vacation. Definitely recommend doing that--it's fun, you all get wet, but it's not so dangerous that you need to worry. I had 2 12-year-old boys and they loved it. The staff are fantastic.
