You get to see St. John's from the other side and some good pictures can be taken of the Signal Hill, the harbor, the boats going out to sea and the fishing boats and docks. Just 10 minute drive from downtown.

The parking here is very limited, but it usually isn't busy (unless of course there are icebergs close by). There is a bit of an uphill walk to get to the fort. There isn't any access to the lighthouse nor the fort. You can only view from behind a fence. The views of signal hill and the city across are... More

We were lucky to see few icebergs very close from fort Amherst. Even without the icebergs it's worth the drive there to view the harbor from another side. Finding a parking could be difficult and there is another KM walk to the light house. Another important spot in John's history.

I cycled out to the Fort Amherst Lighthouse for a spectacular view of Cape Spear, the coast line and the icebergs parked off shore. The view back to St John's and up to Signal Hill were breath taking. I would highly recommend a trip out here.

We went here a few days ago to see the icebergs. Even without the icebergs it`s a great view and was a nice little walk as well :-)

This is an easy walk from the parking lot - about 1 K. On a nice day, there is a great view of the ocean and of Signal Hill. I would go to Cape Speare before I went here, though.

It's a little out of the way, the lighthouse isin't open and we went on a windy, rainy day but it was still very cool. The walk out there is pretty nice, there is a great view of Signal Hill, and it's nice to walk around and take some pictures. There are a few trails you can walk along and... More

The lighthouse wasn't open but we didn't care. We loved the walk out to the lighthouse. It was necessary to park about a 1/2 mile from the light house. As we walked to our left across the harbor was Signal Hill with all the houses that seem to be built into the hill. Cabot Tower stood majestically above it all.... More

A 10 minute gentle walk with amazing sites of the narrows, signal hill and the battery. Old simple lighthouse but views from it are spectacular.

We parked at the parking lot and made our way along the trail. You walk by some houses that are along the trail which look so inviting. The views along the trail were so nice and you can peer across the water to look at the trails along the bottom of Signal Hill. Once you get out to the Fort... More
