There was a cluster of artillary bunkers just below the lighthouse. They were in poor shape but still worth a visit in the 90s. They were the main protection for the City Harbour during WW II . But they were gradually allowed to fall into ruin. The area is now barred off because it is dangerous to walk around down... More

Located on the east end of the South Side Rd. You need to walk part way out to the lighthouse. More

Go through the neighborhood with its small quaint houses, take very scenic pictures of the downtown from the other side of the harbour. Go out to the 2nd World War bunker area, always good for a few interesting photos of rusting windows and concrete bunkers with the atlantic in the background. More

it is surprising that people realy live here. Very rugged you can drive so far then you have to walk about .5km there are gun placements from ww2 More

The lighthouse area is great and you'd expect the getting there ot be great too looking at St. John's across the harbour but it was mostly chain link fence, guard rails and industrial yards. One walk there was more than enough More

Fort Amherst is a lovely place to visit. You feel as though you can touch the ships coming through the harbour of historic St. John's, Newfoundland.
