I've had the good fortune to visit L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site 3 times in the last 15 years, and it never disappoints. In fact, it keeps getting better. The costumed interpreters and Parks Canada tour guides will help you take in the entire experience. The actual site where the ancient sod dwellings were excavated (now reconstructed with care... Wonderful site tour with the park guide is well worth it when visiting this viking settlement at the Northern tip of the peninsula. The reproduction settlement was very well done. You could try on the helmets, capes, and wield the weapons and tools which made it real for the kids and adults. The park staff reacting roles in the settlement were... More

This spectacular national heritage site features a reconstruction of the original Viking settlement in the New World, which predates Columbus by 500 years. There are several walking trails which hug the shore and provide spectacular views around the park, and if you sit quietly, you might see one of the resident foxes or moose who dwell in the area. The... More

This is a low key wonderful place at the very north of Newfoundland. The staff are very friendly, and informative. There are a few reconstructed buildings, with the grassy mounds that were excavated. Film and history inside .we went through in a couple hours, I don't know what I was expecting, probably more after watching the tourism commercials for years,... More

I've heard about L'Anse aux Meadows all my life and always wanted to see it. National Historic Sites has done a great job. There is so much to learn here that I recommend that people take full advantage of the audio visual, the guided tours and the staff "Vikings". All of these opportunities made us aware of things we would... More

Once you drive up the hill, your vision embraces this spectacular bay, which enticed and brought so many fishermen of different origins to this well stoked fishing area so many centuries ago. The Vikings left their imprints and Parks Canada has made a phenomenal effort to make this site a most remarkable one. The displays are most informative, and a... More

Great Hiking for the inexperienced hiker. Well marked, paths, boardwalks, shoreline areas. Saw a number of moose in the fields. The film and the interpreters were able to provide a good background of the history of the Viking visits to the area. They were able to make history come alive.

This was the last big event of our 2-week tour of Newfoundland. The kids quickly forgot about being homesick and tired of sitting in the car as we all got swept away by Viking fever! The guy who greeted us at the front desk wisely recommended that we head out to the reconstructed buildings right away, before the guided tour... More

L'Anse aux Meadows is a jewel of a national park. Beautiful to visit , fun and informative. The guides are fabulous. There is an explanatory movie as you come in that merits a 12 stars out of a possible 10! A must see attraction.

It is a long drive but well worth it. The characters are so interactive and knowledgeable, they made the site so enjoyable. From the hearth fires, to the loom and knitting to the weapons, we had a great afternoon. Plus all the moose we saw all along the way.
