We would probably try this marketplace again. Our experience was offset by being there when the world's biggest cruiseship was docked, and many of the people on it were there so it was packed and generally pushy, veering on rude in some cases. Perhaps because they had a time limit on getting back? We did find some nice fridge magnets... More

Our cruise ship was at port on Canada's Thanksgiving. Fortunately, the city market was open. Unfortunately, a lot of vendors were closed for the day. The vendors that were there had some unique jewelry, which I loved and bought! Colorfully decorated. Worth the time to stop in and walk around!

Easy walk from the port. We were a little disappointed by the size and the lack of local people. It is more a place where tourist go to buy trinkets. There was an mix of souvenirs, produce/food, and artwork/artisans. It was interesting to walk around but can be done in no time. We probably would not go back if we... More

Variety is the bottom line for this market. Not only was there a wonderful variety of fresh food, but also small eateries, a wine merchant, bakeries, ethnic food, local processed foods, a seafood market, gift stalls, etc. We stopped into this market daily for the 3 days we spent in Saint John. We had dinner at Billy's seafood, which operates... More

We were able to find some great local crafts here. They do sell a lot of fresh food and produce, but there are goods and souvenirs as well. The coffee shop offers free wifi (don't recall whether it was From the coffee shop of just accessible from there but if you need to check email, grab a cup of joe... More

We found the market after a local recommendation... Great finds include low-cost and delicious lobster rolls from Lord's, beautiful art on cards by Jessica Doyle, gorgeous pottery mugs at The Butcher's Daughter, etc. The food smelled wonderful and the fruits and vegetables looked fresh. Most of the merchants were very friendly and welcoming to the customers. However, we did encounter... More

This was my first trip to the Saint John City Market and it was great. Not nearly the produce selection I'm used to in Halifax NS, but our market is much much larger and serves a much larger populaton. For the size of SJ this is an amazing market. For Maritimers it is fun to visit the original Pete's Frootique... More

Old City Market has perhaps 100 or more vendors in a high-domed glass space, been there since the 19th century -- seafood shops excellent, take-out food, the awful dulse dried seaweed which some Nova Scotians eat like potato chips. We stuck with salted fish and aromatic soaps.

The candied Maple salmon at Lord's is delicious. They do their own smoked salmon as well which is amazing. Pizza by the slice for $3 at Sisters pizza shop. Fresh produce from Baleman's or Pete's Frutique... fresh fish, meat, and chicken. Samosas, gelato, and the like. Also a variety of art, handcrafts and children's clothing.
