The dam is a great place to eat a picnic lunch, with friends or alone. It's close to Fredericton and a nice day excursion. The only downside is seeing the aging infrastructure which is depressing.

Dam is about 15 miles West of Fredericton downtown. Takes 20-30 minutes to get there depending on traffic. You can drive across the dam. There is a one hour free tour inside the dam which is interesting. A chance to see a big dam up close and personal. The dam is aging uncomfortably, and plans are to decommission it by... More

Not very large in comparisons with other dams we have visited. Poor condition and really not worth visiting. However, beautiful scenery on route with some breathtaking views.

I am not sure how this is considered an attraction. It is a concrete eye sore in an otherwise beautiful river valley. We drove by today and even stopped to look at it and it is pitiful. For a more interesting experience, drive from it up river and look for evidence of the towns that its construction drowned (highway bridges... More

The dam is run down and the road under construction. However the drive to Mactaquaq park is still breathtakingly beautiful

Pretty Cool If You've Never Seen A Dam Up Close Before! If you are looking for a huge attraction than this is not it; however, if you'd like to take a nice drive about ten minutes out of Fredericton's south side city centre and feel as though you are out in the country then the drive is worth it. As... More

It's a powerful dam what else can I say, lots of water goes through it, did get some cool pictures of it though, worth seeing, there's not many around, just hope that it's in full power when you do to see it's full effect

However, the head pond is attractive with several parks and picnic areas nearby. Centennial Park is free and if you really are attracted to hydro electric dams, you can get a pretty good view of it from there. Unlike many area attractions, there is actually a large parking area just to the south of the dam that should be suitable... More

I have been in this area for 10 years and the Mactaquac Dam area is my favourite spot so far. It is peaceful and beautiful with two marinas and beaches to swim in. I have always seen deer and other wild animals nearby. For the fisherman this area is home for small mouth bass and the fight is usually exceptional.... More
