Although it is cafeteria style the food is served with care. As I enjoy Bison I had a Bison burger which was done proper and tasted the same ( as you are aware Bison is a very lean meat and it is easy to overcook it and then it becomes dry and tasteless) - it appears that the cook/chef has... This small zoo(lots of room for the animals) combined with an ecological experience. You could spend a couple of hours or a couple of days. Thh gift shop is small, but packed. The only drawback is the goose droppings.

Thanks for visiting! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at FortWhyte on our trails and in our gift shop. The geese and other wildlife make FortWhyte a special place but you do need to watch your step in place. We do have a maintenance crew that sweep the main walk and the boardwalks daily to help make... More

My 8-yo daughter and her friends had so much fun critter dipping at the wetland. We've seen several kinds of water creatures like leech, water spiders, etc. We had a tour also where we see chickens in the coop, buffalo, wild pigs, bunnies, owls, turtles, ducks, etc. They have a "touch" museum where you are allowed to literally touch the... Critter dipping in the marshes is one of my favorite activities. Sounds like you were excellent critter dippers with the amount of invertebrates that you found. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your time here with your daughter and her friends. Thanks for taking the time to tell us about your visit. Regards, Dana Forster Hospitality & Group... More

We recently rode our bikes out to Fort Whyte. This was an excellent way to see the area as walking can take some time. The facility is "first class". Bikes are available to rent too!

We went to Fort Whyte with a seven year old and a two and a half year old. If you're looking for something to do with your children, this is an ideal place to go. It's also pretty great if you're looking to take some nice nature photos. The visitor centre has a really impressive collection of taxidermy animals, and... More

Hi Lynne, Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience here with your family. Sounds like you had a jam packed visit with us. Dip-netting on the marsh definitely a highlight of a lot of kids (I love it too!) Glad you got to see a variety of wildlife, they don't always cooperate with visitors. Sorry the... More

Based on many acres of an old cement quarry, the lakes and pathways through prairie forest are spectacular and a favorite hangout for many wildlife species and Winnipeg photographers. The interpretive centre is a terrific educational facility for young and old alike. The place has many dedicated volunteers and well-trained staff to make every visit a learning experience. Fort Whyte was a fun diversion on a stressful business trip. We rented a car to visit here and Assiniboine Park one weekend day. Would have been nice to get better photos of the bison, especially the babies, but hanging with the prairie dogs was fun. Lovely grounds for a walk - I'd have a membership for sure if I... More

A perfect place to witness the thousands of geese that pass through the Winnipeg area. The interpretive centre inside provides insight into how and why they do what they do. Walking trails, a gift shop and restaurant offer alternatives too staying outside watching the geese arrive.

Sounds like you were here for our migration season in the fall. It is pretty spectacular to see all of the geese landing in the evenings. As you mentioned there are several opportunities for visitors, family friendly presentations and concessions as well as a 3 course dinner in the cafe. Thank you for taking the time to write a review... More
