Lake Winnipeg is an inland ocean. From the Sandy beaches of Victoria and Albert to the rocky and historical shores of New Iceland in Gimli you can sail swim fish or hunt for flat stones All within 1-2 hours of Winnipeg there are activities and festivals all summer long

We enjoyed a day of sailing on Lake Winnipeg. Nice breezes, clean water and nice views of the shoreline. It was a great day. We enjoyed the dock, looking at the sailboats, and talking with the locals after we returned from sailing,

We spent all the afternoon in Gimli and had a good time, even if we were caught by the rain! The beach is wonderful, there is a playground and volleyball fields. The few shops are medium, they weren't impressive but the restaurants are generally good. The habitants of Gimli are nice and friendly. In summer, it will probably be more... More

Some of the best beaches, warm, shallow water for children, and great waves when there's a wind. Unfortunately, by the middle or end of summer, there is a tendency for algae blooms which limit the swimming. We all hope and pray that the U.S. and Canada will continue their efforts to fix this problem, as the mighty Red River drains... More

On the West edge of the lake lies the town of Winnipeg Beach. Beaches, Boardwalks, and Bandstand, this beach has all sorts of fun events such as great fishing, boating, seadooing, golfing etc. http://www.winnipegbeach.ca/tour/photos_det.asp?ID=24 I have to admit that the beach on the West side of Lake Winnipeg has a few more rocks than the sandy beach on the East,...
