It was under Construction so there wasn't a whole lot open to see. Lots of noise and work going on outside the Empress.

No money or time to go to England but you are in Victoria? Book the afternoon tea at the Empress. Yes. V. Expensive ( $50 for adults almost 30 for children but a once in a lifetime experience) Lashings of delicious tea (Empress blend of course) and a three tiered tray of sandwiches (cucumber egg salmon chicken) all beautiful and... We scheduled in Tea at the Empress. We envisioned what it must have been like for Queen Elizabeth to sit and have the most excellent tasting tea and dessert at the Empress Restaurant. We curled our little pinky finger as we sipped on our tea. We walked through the hallways and sneaked a peek at the rooms upstairs. It was... More

We did not stay at the hotel, but did use the spa. Gorgeous old hotel. A must see. Perhaps we'll stay here next time we are in Victoria. The spa was fantastic, by the way.

You'll feel like royalty strolling through time! Tea time is rather expensive ($50 per person) but an amazing experience.

It is a wonderful hotel with beautiful architecture, and very interesting photos and historic objects inside. We visited the artist in residence in her small gallery and had a lovely chat. We didn't have a drink there, but the bengal lounge looked incredible.

Great history and story but old section rooms are musty and tired. Bengal room a fun spot but high tea rates have got a little out of control.

Time travel is possible! This fantastic hotel is straight out of the Art Deco/Gatsby era. Gorgeous wood paneling everywhere; don't forget to look up at the chandeliers and ceilings. Afternoon tea is a Downton Abbey experience. If you have never had Tea at the Empress then you've missed out on one of life's great pleasures!

This hotel is very grand it's historic way. High ceilings and wood beams and pillars throughout the building. Lots to see and do. Enjoy an amazing Indian buffet meal in the Bengal Lounge and enjoy one of their martinis- eggnog at Christmas time- worth every penny. They have live band on Friday and Saturday nights. The grounds are beautiful. It's... More
