After visiting the Punjabi Market of 6 consecutive city blocks along Main St. in Vancouver, BC, during a weekday in the morning after 9 AM, I was let down by the visit. Most of the Punjabi-Indian shops seemed to be on the verge of closing down or out of business, there were not many pedestrians that visited that spot, and... More

It's been two years since I visited this area and it was one of our favorite places to shop, especially for fabrics & clothing. Sadly, the area has declined significantly with many empty stores and the largest sari shops having relocated to Surrey. But there are still some wonderful stores left and the owners are friendly and helpful. Visit the... More

This place was a joke. I'm from San Francisco and we don't have a "little India" but what we have is ten times better. This place only had 2 restarants which sucked and the shopping was also a joke. All over priced stuff to sell to non Indians. The streets were a ghost town. I've heard that vancouver was very... More

Vancouver has a huge East Indian population, and this wonderful market is one of the benefits of our multiculturalism. East Indian friends tell me the range of products available here rivals similar resources in Bombay or Calcutta. Certainly, my wife and I have found everything we ever wanted on its well-stocked shelves. Very courteous staff will even give you a... More

Vancouver is a truly multicultural city. It's nice to come to this area on Main Street, but it offers a very small sampling of the buisnesses owned and operated by the East Indian community in Vancouver (I'd say the same of Chinatown). It's worth going to, but you'll get a richer sampling of foods and services dispersed throughout Vancouver, Surrey... More

I expected a great deal from this area but I'm not sure if it was the time of day (late morning) or the fact that the neighborhood itself is declining, but many store fronts were vacant and those establishments that were there mainly consisted of restaurants (Himalayas is notable and pretty good grub), food markets and sari shops. I expected... More

Punjabi Street in Vancouver has by far the best deals that I have seen on Indian clothes in North America. Rockbottom prices - salwar suits starting at $9.99, negotiable prices, and excellent food make this a great spot to hit.
