We stayed at Clayoquot Wild Resort in September 2014 and made several trips up the sound. The views are breath-taking, true wild beauty. The one drawback and it is HUGE is the presence of at least a dozen salmon "fish farms" polluting this beautiful wild fiord. It is a true travesty that these filthy things are allowed to exist in... Clayoquat Sound is a wonderful and complex system of water, islands, inlets and forests that provides a magnificent environment for diverse range of wildlife. We went on two excursions - whale watching and then bear watching - and both were fantastic! Watching bears forage amongst the rocks and calmly eat the crabs they caught - we could hear the crunching... More

We did a kayaking tour through Jaime's Whaling Station. It was 2 hours on the water and 1 hour exploring Meares Island. The tour guide was a young good-looking guy who really knows his stuff, but was not excessively patient. He was frustrated with my friend and I who were struggling to keep up with him. And it's not like... More

We took a water taxi to Meares Island. The ride is about 10-15 mins, and we saw a giant 'fried egg' egg jelly fish along the way. The boardwalk on Meares is generally well maintained (a few spots where the steps are loose and you need to be careful). It leads you through the forest where you see spectacular trees... More

We went on an amazing 2.5 hour tour with Alexis on Black Bear Kayaking Tours of the sound. She was extremely knowledgable on the history of the area as well as the marine life.

Absolutely stunning views with mountain scenery. Lots of wildlife - bears, otters, seals, ospreys and bald eagles. Can't think of a better place to spend some time.
