Fishing in Tofino

Booked 1/2 day full price salmon charter. Despite specifically mentioning at shop 4 days in advance, guide had no crab bait (forgot). Only got worse, we went out to get our OWN crab bait, then he: lost my $2500 fly rod overboard (gunned motor without checking that rods secure); lost his own rod holder overboard by bumping into it while... In the past few years I have traveled across Canada dozens of times - from Quebec to Alberta to BC and more. Always great experience and always met friendly, honest people. Not the case here! Do not even think about going to this store, you will likely get ripped off. I came in and bought a spinning rod, lures and... More

Dear JarvNY, We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our products and service. It is unfortunate that the fishing rod/reel combo you purchased had a loose pin which caused the handle to come off the reel after some use. When our employee contacted me on the Thursday morning to ask how best to assist you, we offered to... More

We had a day out with Flo and conditions were poor. We heard on the radio that all the other guides had difficulties getting fish. The conditions had changed overnight and the fish had moved on. Flo worked hard to find the fish and eventually got us some action on both the downrigger and the fly. I truly recommend Flo... More

Just came back from a 6 hr morning fly fishing charter. Be warned that this company do not provide either warm clothing or any drinks or breakfast on this trip. We were very disappointed in the quality of care taken with our comfort, it would take very little effort to ensure that the guests were comfortable and therefore able to... More

Despite the wind and rain, my day's guided saltwater fly-fishing adventure was well organised in adfvance by Jay at the shop. My guide - Flo - was there to meet me as planned at 7.00; his boat was ready, with 4 fly-rods set-up. Despite the conditions, he was a very capable and safe pair of hands and we moved around... I've lived in Tofino for years but have never gone out fishing. My wife and I bid on a charter that Clayoquot Ventures donated to the Tofino Streamkeepers so I headed out with some friends the other day. Conor met us at the dock and had us fishing an offshore hotspot in no time. He knew exactly where the fish... More

I wanted to try catching salmon on the fly. My guide, Flo, was completely accommodating. We started out with the downriggers, got a few fish in the boat, then brought out the fly rods. The early season conditions made fly-fishing problematic (fish were deep) so we went back to the downriggers, but only after Flo made sure I was OK... More

Went with my husband and older son for a one day fishing experience - We arrived at dock and the boat and our guide Connor were all ready to go. We first went about 13 miles for Halibut fishing where within less than 2 hours we had reached our quota. Unfortunately Junior got seasick and wanted to go back to... More

My wife and I had the fishing experience of a lifetime. Booked a 10 hour trip to go after halibut and chinook. The outfit is clearly well-organized and interested in providing you with a safe, enjoyable day. The boat and gear was in A-1 shape. Our guide, Blake, was knowledgeable, friendly, and completely helpful to us as novice ocean anglers.... More

I've been going to Tofino every year since the early 90's and can say without hesitation that Jay's Clayoqout Ventures is the best fishing guide service there or anywhere that I have found. They treat guests tremendously well, especially considering that it is serious fishing, not some sitting on a dock and have someone bring you a latte' kind of... More
