I was very impressed with this museum; I believe it is the best museum for a town this size that I have ever visited. Located upstairs in a new building in the center of town, the Nanaimo museum packs a lot of interesting displays into its space. It is considerably larger inside than you might think from the lobby/gift shop.... More

My friend and I were pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality of this museum and the amount of things to look at. Well laid out, lovely lighting and a ton of historical information. The coal mine was especially impressive. A great place to bring your out of town guests. More

This is a totally Under-Rated museum, and holds a lot of Nanaimo's history inside it. One of the workers' jordan was extremely helpful in explaining some of the artifacts - we plan to go back there again! More

Yes, it was a nice museum but the highlight was the coffee shop which is attached to the gift shop. They serve their coffee/hot chocolate in these great ceramic mugs which only get bigger based on the size you order and pair whatever you get with a Nanaimo Bar. It's a great pre or post museum visit stop. More

Full marks to Nanaimo for this gem of a museum. It's part of impressive new complex that demonstrates a pride in the past and a real commitment to the future of the town. The museum cleverly illustrates the development of the town over the years. Social, architectural, industrial and economic issues are objectively explored with engaging displays. Well worth a... Small museum, but a great look at what Nanaimo was like "in the olden days". Excellent staff who really have a passion for sharing their local knowledge. Well worth the trip More

This new modern facility is located in the new convention center in the heart of a revitalized downtown. It offers a look at local history and is exceptionally well done. Plan on spending a couple hours here, at least. There are some amazing old city photos around the museum. There also is a nice gift shop attached with some unique... More

My first visit I thought - small town, small town museum. Was I ever wrong. This is an excellent museum relative to the size of the town, professional and definitely worth a stop if that's the kind of place you visit when in a town. I've been back a few times! More
