A great place to take visitors if they want to know a little history. Very well laid out and things for the little ones to do. Great way to spend a cool rainy day.

....too understand about Nanaimo and it's history..... allow one to two hours. Inexpensive admission. I especially enjoyed the mining and China town history exhibits. Helpful lady at the front admissions desk.

My boys, ages 11 and 7, really enjoyed the Nanaimo museum. It appealed to their love of sports and competition by highlighting lacrosse, hockey and soccer as well as the bathtub boat race. They enjoyed the mining exhibit as it was dark and made to look like a real mine. Time was spent in the old time school room as... More

There was a good mining display when we were there. Only one staff member as I recall but she was very helpful and informative. I will return to check on current exhibits.

Thank you for your review! The coal mine is definitely one of our most popular exhibits - we even won an award for it! Its always nice to hear that people had a pleasant experience with our staff or volunteers. Only having a limited amount of staff we depend on volunteers to help with manning the front desk and the... More

The Nanaimo Museum is a really active place with new exhibition every few months. And the variety of displays keeps it so interesting that you always find something that keeps you occupied for hours.

We really enjoyed this museum. Things were well organized and descriptions were informative but not so detailed as to be overwhelming. The coal mine exhibit was very interesting. Even though we know no one in Nanaimo, the videos of people talking about their memories of various aspects of the city were very interesting. One certainly got a lot of value... More

Thank you so much for the 5-Star review! We are very glad you had a good time here at the museum. Keeping admission prices accessible for everyone in the community is definitely a priority for us. The coal mine is always a hit with visitors, and I'm happy you took time to check out the "Nanaimo Memories" video clips. These... More

Just like the famous story - The Little Engine that Could - so, the Nanaimo Museum, though small in stature is grand in enjoyment. Having visited many museums, this one stands out for simple reasons. 1. It is spacious, which allows the visitor tremendous freedom and comfort. 2. Easy to read displays with fabulous creations of the history of Central... More

we've all gone to places where it just didn't feel right. This place is quite well located downtown. Maybe one of the things that sat wrong with me is it is in kind of a modern glass and metal building yet the very nature of a museum is to reflect older things and times. They seem to be quite well... More

Hi John, Thank you for taking the time to review us, and we're sorry that your experience wasn't all you had expected. We would like to address a couple of the points you made. We are in a newer style building. One of the main reasons we were so thrilled to be in this modern building was that it allows... More

Lots of great exhibits, well described and gives a good history of the area. Downtown Nanaimo is a wonderful place to wander around, so stopping in at the museum for an hour is a great idea.
