Two months ago I was at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. I was able to poke my nose into the museum then, but wasn't fully able to explore it. What I saw intrigued me, so I vowed to come back. I'm glad I did! The museum is very well set up, with some very engaging exhibits about the local history... More

For the small fee of $2.00, we enjoyed our visit to this beautiful, informative little museum. It provides a visually appealing history of Nanaimo & is well worth a visit. Children will love it! And don't miss the gift shop filled with lovely local items.

Displays are well done. Rates for membership very reasonable. Grandchildren love the mine replica and I let them listen to one the taped stories of the coal miners each time I go.

Recently visited the Nanaimo Museum over Christmas and had a pleasant surprise. Very nicely done displays and a very cool coal mine tunnel simulation and history of mining and logging in the area. Entrance was by donation and an adjacent Serious Coffee shop made for a special time to de-brief on favorite displays over some nice treats , great espresso... More

It is a mid size museum that takes about an hour and a half to go through. Just about right in my book. It was well laid out and interesting. We learned quite a bit about the history of the area and enjoyed doing it.

Great Value and entertaining for kids as well as adults. Younger children are frightened of the mine but age 6 and up were good. The back pack and the list of things to answer are a great way to engage kids.
