Snowcat skiing was pioneered in 1975 by Allan and Brenda Drury in the small community of Meadow Creek, BC. Situated in the south east corner of British Columbia, 1 1/2 hours north of Nelson. Since 1975, the Drurys and their staff at Selkirk Wilderness Skiing have developed a loyal following amongst deep powder skiers and snowboarders looking for an alternative to both lift-serviced and helicopter skiing and riding.

Despite the challenging snow conditions the guides found some good runs and entertained us with their great jokes. Selkirk’s huge terrain allows for many varied aspects. The run called Candy was in the sun and we skied it just as the slope tuned to corn snow. On Tuesday the guides took us down Red Dog, a long bowl, where you... More

I booked my SWS week in April 2014 expecting to have meters of powder snow in March 2015. Unfortunately, like in many other places, the snow conditions this winter were difficult and the arrival at SWS under a great sunshine and spring températures was not what I expected. Despite this, I had a wonderful experience thanks to the kindness and... More

I was booked to stay at SWS this February. The conditions everywhere were poor due to warm weather. I received a rain check from another operator but not SWS. Most of our group gave it a try and were rewarded with boiler plate. "terrible skiing". Only half of the group went the next day despite being stuck at the lodge.... More

This review was written by someone who did not stay at Selkirk Wilderness Skiing. Had this gentleman joined his friends at our lodge that week, he may have felt differently. There are inherent weather risks in every outdoor activity based holiday. If a booked beach holiday was cold and rainy, it would likewise be unreasonable to expect a refund or... More

We were lucky with the snow conditions and weather- although there had been no new snow for the past week the guides were able to find lots of unskied runs through good powder, and snow on the Thursday evening gave us new powder to ski on the Friday. The pace of the group was perfect and we never felt that... More

Our specific week at Selkirk faced very difficult weather, which is part of the risk of a booking such as this. On our way out of the area, we found out that every other operation in the area (heli and cat) was shut down due to exceedingly warm weather and poor snow conditions - with high avalanche risk. There was... More

Selkirk Wilderness Skiing takes pride in its long standing safety record of 40 years. We would never put guest safety second to any other consideration. Our entire guiding team are experienced and accredited ski and mountain guides by both Canadian and International guiding bodies. In their professional opinion and in response to the posted comment, safety was never compromised. More

We were in Selkirk for the first week of the season this year...What a trip! The hospitality was on point and they even made custom dinners for my strict dietary needs without even having to ask. Snow was great, hit freshy's all week despite the lack of snow everywhere else in BC. Amazing week with great people, one that i'll... More

My husband and I had a fantastic trip at the Selkirk Wilderness lodge. The guides and staff were really professional and left no details un-attended. I can't wait to go back! But I wont tell you which week because I'm keeping to myself and my 20 other friends who took the lodge over and watched snow fall every day!

This place has so much terrain. The people who work there are over the top friendly. I am very impressed with the operation. Their focus on safety was very professional.

I've been going to SWS for 19 years, so I must be satisfied. The skiing conditions have usually been great, lodge clean and comfortable, staff friendly and many have been there for years which makes it a family like atmosphere. Many of the same skiers return on the same week each year so while I came alone I knew 18... More

Just got back from 5 days of skiing at Selkirk Wilderness. Even though they are in the midst of a snow drought, the experience was exceptional. The fabulous guides consistently found us fresh, untracked lines to ski in great terain. The staff is absolutely wonderful, anticipating every need. This was my first experience cat skiing and it exceeded my expectations.... More
