Description: Maligne Lake is the largest glacially formed and fed lake in the Canadian...
Maligne Lake is the largest glacially formed and fed lake in the Canadian Rockies and those remnants of the last Ice Age still cling to the cliffs, rest in the cirques and cap off the pinnacles of Maligne Lakes' fabulous ring of 3,360 meter mountains. It is the melt waters of those glaciers that give the lake its' lovely, tranquil-blue colour and that backdrop of lofty peaks which holds back the busy world and provides a calming wilderness experience. World-famous Spirit Island, on Maligne Lake is the heart and soul of Jasper National Park. Accessible only by boat this diminutive icon of the Canadian Rockies is the destination point of the scenic Maligne Lake cruise. The worldwide fame of Maligne Lake is historically and intrinsically bound to the art of Photography. Diminutive Spirit Island, resting in the hall of the Gods at the south end of Maligne Lake is, arguably the most photographed locale in the Canadian Rockies.

Maligne lake is stunning, but I think to ask for $64 for a 90 minutes boat trip is a bit to much. We simply walked along the lake and enjoyed the views from the water front.

We took the boat trip on Maligne Lake to Spirit Island as part of a combined package with the Jasper SkyTram ("Do the two"). The lake is a relatively long drive from Jasper, so you need to allow time to get there, especially as you are likely to encounter wildlife along the route which will result in cars stopping to... we were a bit sceptical - but the views from this cruise was breathtaking - and there is no other option for seeing the mountains down the lake. JDI

The journey to Maligne Lake is spectacular initself and there are plenty of places to stop where you can see wildlife in abundance and take stunning photos. When you arrive at Maligne Lake, whilst you are waiting for your boat excursion there is the Day Lodge and Restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating looking over the docks and lake... More

I was fortunate to have beautiful weather and snow covered mountains for this cruise. The scenery was breathtaking! I wasn't completely happy with the cruise itself. It was packed with people and photos on the way to Spirit Island were difficult. My window would not open and thus the photos had a lot of glare. I noticed some other windows... More

The drive to Maligne Lake is breath taking to say the least. The mountains are so picturesque!! The mountain tops were covered with a light dusting of snow and this gave them a 3D effect!!!Be sure to stop at Medicine Lake, it is quite pretty there as well and interesting to read about the history of the lake. Before taking... More

It's a pretty lake, and its a 1 1/2 boat cruise - whilst the commentary by our guide was interesting I believe it is overpriced at $62. And to top it off the so called Spirit 'Island' is not on an island at all but a peninsula - call it what it is - spirit peninsula!

I enjoyed going for a boat ride. The scenery was beautiful and the fun crew did a nice job of narrating! Like everything else in the area I thought 62 dollars was a little expensive.

It is a bit expensive but seeing Spirit Island made it worth. Met nice people on trip and staff were friendly and knowledgeable but unlucky for us a rather a dull day for our trip. Saw a moose on way to venue. Restaurant queue was massive after tour so we did not eat there.
