Description: Maligne Lake is the largest glacially formed and fed lake in the Canadian...
Maligne Lake is the largest glacially formed and fed lake in the Canadian Rockies and those remnants of the last Ice Age still cling to the cliffs, rest in the cirques and cap off the pinnacles of Maligne Lakes' fabulous ring of 3,360 meter mountains. It is the melt waters of those glaciers that give the lake its' lovely, tranquil-blue colour and that backdrop of lofty peaks which holds back the busy world and provides a calming wilderness experience. World-famous Spirit Island, on Maligne Lake is the heart and soul of Jasper National Park. Accessible only by boat this diminutive icon of the Canadian Rockies is the destination point of the scenic Maligne Lake cruise. The worldwide fame of Maligne Lake is historically and intrinsically bound to the art of Photography. Diminutive Spirit Island, resting in the hall of the Gods at the south end of Maligne Lake is, arguably the most photographed locale in the Canadian Rockies.

Overpriced but needs to be done.

The trip takes about 90 minutes. Not really value for money but as this is one of the top ten things to do in the Rockies you need to do it.

Spirit island is a place that is truly wonderful and so beautiful, the photos don't capture it all. Take the tour and go....it's worth every penny. Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly and knew their history. Well done Maligne Tours.

We went on the trip to Spirit Island in the afternoon. Gregg, the tour guide, and Patrick, the captain, were very entertaining with many fun facts. We had a lot of Asian tourists on board who either did not follow instructions or had screaming kids, which Gregg handled well. We even had a near rescue of a canoe that had... More

I really enjoyed this tour of Maligne Lake. It was very informative and the stop on spirit island was fun, It would have been nice if it was a tiny bit longer but it's understandable that is has to be short. The scenery was amazing and I would definitely go again.

Hello, we booked a tour including Canyon visit and lake tour, including wildlife viewing / encounter (with Maligne Adventures). The website states 95% success rate in viewing wildlife. While the guide was nice, the tour was a disaster and a complete waste of money. Did not see any wildlife and the way it is run, no chance of seeing any... More

If you can muster the patience in dealing with foreign tourists talking above the tour guides (who are all audtralian by the way) and being rude at times then the reward of seeing glaciers and spirit island by boat are far worth it. Sit near the front so you can hear the story of Maligne Lake. Don't worry too much... More

Decided to spend the afternoon taking a ride to Maligne Lake and taking the cruise. A little over $100 for the two of us that could have been spent better elsewhere. We cruised to Spirit Island....should actually be called Spirit Peninsula....so named because no really knows why. A ten minute walk on the shore and back on the boat for... More

This boat trip is the only way to land on Spirit Island and take photos. It is definitely worth doing but, so saying, it is a little expensive. Lake Maligne is beautiful though.

I booked our boat cruise through Viator. We drove 5 hours to get to the lake and found that 5 days earlier, the road had been closed due to a forest fire. Obviously, our tour was cancelled. We went to the office of Maligne Lake Tours in Jasper and they would not take any responsibility for letting us know the... More

Hello Judy Im sorry to hear you didnt have a good experience regarding your booking and we will get some more details from you and look into this. The wildfire happened very fast and our team were dealing with a lot of situations at the time. Things are gradually returning to normal and we will follow this up. More

The problem with this tour is the price. 67 CDN dollars to visit an island that is only a couple of 2 or 3 hundred square meters in size. You cant even get on the island unless you take a canoe. The boat ride is approximately 30 minutes and the staff gives a decent. summary of the makeup of the... More
