Among all our activities in the Rockies, this experience ranked the highest as this is a totally new experience for us - to be able to walk, stand and sit on glacier ice. When we arrived at the Icefield Centre before noon, we had problem finding carpark lots and also had to wait in queue to book the tickets, common... More

This is a tough one to rate, on one hand the center is a top notch complex with everything you'd expect, on the other hand it's so crowded you cannot enjoy the fact that you are seeing something amazing. This is a must stop, but you might want to leave just as soon as you get there if you are... More

I guess its hard to organize the throngs of tourists trying to push their way to loading gates anywhere, but this was its own kind of confusion. But they do boast the most ladies bathrooms for the size of the building - something most ladies will appreciate. And they did get us out onto the glacier so I guess their... More

Go early! The views are gorgeous, but the centre was packed with hundreds of people after a couple of hours. Definitely worth the visit.

Way.Too.Crowded--which I know they have nothing to do with, but the food lines were untolerable. They need a place, or even a vending machine, where you can grab something to drink without having to spend the afternoon in line. Being a huge tourist place, maybe more than <20 places to sit would be a good idea? No matter how much... More

Not much here except views of the glaciers. Recommend that one stay outside and enjoy the views. Parking is a hassle too. there are many better stops on the Parkway such as Peyto Lake.

I believe others have described this trip very well, and the experience was indeed wonderful. Just be aware that after you purchase the tickets you need to get in another check-in line and be assigned a time before you can actually embark on the bus. I bought my tickets online and was asked to choose a time when placing the... More

The first hint that this was not going to be what we had imagined, was when we passed the Glacier Skywalk, saw a long queue waiting beside the Icefields Parkway. Black mesh obscured the view of the Skywalk and signs (many) indicated that we had to drive another 6 km to the Icefield Centre to buy a ticket and get... More

The centre is merely a cafeteria and a selling point for excursions onto the glacier. Skip that and go straight up to the Athabasca Glacier. Be sure to bring your coat. The wind coming off the glacier is very brisk and very cold. The trail to the glacier is also steep, so wear sturdy shoes.

This was our 2nd visit, the last being 12 years ago. The long walk to the top of the hill is well worth the effort. The ice fields have receded a lot but are still amazing.
