Fun Shopping

There are a lot of neat restaurants and shops in this area. I would recommend visiting on an empty stomach with some spending money.

But it just still has that old small town feeling but invaded by loads of people at night. The original Army and Navy value Department store is still on the corner of Whyte Aveune and Calgary Trail. Princess Theatre is a must view and attend. Restaurants and small shops all along Whyte Avenue leading down from the University of Alberta.... More

I walked around Old Strathcona after taking the High Level Streetcar from downtown Edmonton. It's a nice way to kill time or spend an afternoon. The Farmer's Market was awesome, as was nearby Whyte avenue--tons of unique shops, boutiques, outdoor cafés and restaurants. If you appreciate nice architecture or are looking for a nice place to dine, it is definitely... More

Old Strathcona is a neighbourhood encompassing three distinct identities, the first is it's a market space, being home to the weekend Old Strathcona Market which is, in my view, the best farmer's type market in the city. Secondly, it is an arts space, home to a number of key independent theatres such as the Walterdale Playhouse, among others, and it... More

The Old Strathcona is worth looking closely at. It may not seem, at first, to match Haight Ashbury or North Beach, but give it a good walking through, and check the back streets and the whole area out, as well as the nearby University of Alberta. Come back and check it out on a different day of the week. Give... More

I read a little about this area before arriving and was impressed with the number of small boutiques and restaurants in the area. Some really quirky places that were fun to explore. The Week Book store was great and I made a purchase there. We ate at a wonderful Mexican restaurant. I highly recommend a visit to this area if... More

This is a must see. Two levels of great exploration including a big album collection. Nice little coffee shopincluded makes it a worthwhile place to explore, buy, and reminisce.

Edmonton has 2 downtowns. A business downtown on Jasper ave and a hip shopping downtown on whyte ave. this is where the nightlife happens as well. On the weekend you can find the farmers market and often times festivals. Very nice with historic buildings.
