Fort Calgary was founded in 1875 when the NWMP crossed the Bow River and laid the foundations for Calgary at the place where the Bow meets the Elbow River. Today, Fort Calgary’s interpretive centre allows you to explore the rich heritage of Calgary and the RCMP. The large outdoor park area is a great way to enjoy the river landscape, and offers unique views of downtown Calgary. Fort Calgary offers meeting and event spaces, as well as special events on most holidays. Open from 9 am – 5 pm daily, all year round.

The main floor museum is a credit to the Northwest Mounted Police/Royal Canadian Mounted Police, whose veterans clearly value the displays. The museum caters to all ages with a special effort made to engage the elementary school crowd. And the Sunday brunch, featuring local ingredients, is not to be missed !

Fort Calgary is filled with wonderful, interactive educational exhibits depicting the history of Fort Calgary and the surrounding area. The exhibits are interesting to both children and adults. Take the time to dress up in the Mountie uniforms and take a family photo. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a stroll along the river.

Whilst this is agreat museum, it's quite small and doesn;t take too long to get round. I have been there for a wedding and a team building event and both events were really enhance by the venue.

What to do in Calgary on a cold, snowy afternoon? We plumped for Calgary Fort and had a very interesting and informative afternoon. A lot of (dullish) boards set the scene but the recreated scenes were ideal for our group ranging in age from 2 - 66. The staff on duty could not have been more helpful and tolerant of... More

I hadn't been here in over 20 years. Wow! Wonderful changes! I wouldn't have recognized the museum, it is totally different place now. I went with a school group that were participating in class activity in the teaching area. The volunteers leading the classes were excellent! Very well versed in the Fort, very personable. I was disappointed with the area... More

Take the time to see how the settlement of Calgary started along with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Great history presentation includes a short film.

It is a quaint, smaller venue, so the atmosphere is great - even in a buffet setting. The buffet table is filled with about 15-20 different items, not a lot but what is there is very fresh, sometimes different than what you would get and there is lots. There is the basic sunday brunch items, and your eggs, waffles, etc..... More

Walked from downtown Calgary and were very surprised by our welcome and the interesting exhibits. Disappointed that the video seemed to run on restricted times.Worth a visit.
