You could easily spend a day here! The zoo is enormous and located in part on an island in the Bow River. The scenery and gardens alone are worth a walk. Animals are divided into areas primarily based upon their country of origin and enclosures are large and very natural-looking. The variety of animals is enormous! For inclement or cooler... more

We visited the zoo early Aug 2009. It was a rainy day, but we found the zoo well worth the trip. I disagree with a previous review in that I found animal signs were properly displayed. There were lots of opportunities to be under covers. We were able to see many animals up close: elephants, hippos, lions, bears, otters, camels.... more

This is one of the worst zoos I have ever gone to. And the problem is not with the animals, but with the people who run it. Many of the animals are not even identified and in many cases where they are the signs are either difficult to find or not where they should be placed. The Zoo map is... more

We "prehistoric" older people loved the Zoo! My husband really enjoyed the Whoo Doos (mountainous terrain) in the Prehistoric exhibit. What we thought was the greatest was that where these mountains are buffer the highway noise on the other side. The animals were just okay in the exhibits, but some of the buildings that housed these animals were really really... more

The Wolf Willow (Rimbey and District) Guides Brownies and Sparks saw monkeys and quite a few other wild and wooly animals this weekend on our overnight field trip to the spectacular Calgary Zoo! Our safari began in Rimbey at 7:30 Saturday morning and by 11:00am, groups of girls ranging from age 5 to 12 were touring through the African Savanna,... more

From all of the glowing reviews, I guess I was expecting the most spectacular zoo ever.....It was clean, well laid out and had a good variety of animals. If you don't really care for zoos and just go because your kids like it, then it will be just another zoo. more

We went back to the Calgary zoo this past summer (July 2008), not having been there for at least 5 years. It keeps getting better and better ... we love this zoo! Lots of trees, park-like areas, sitting areas, and resting spots make for a very pleasant day! The new African area is especially amazing! To see all the animals... more

The Calgary Zoo is far superior to any zoo I've ever been to. It is extremely large in size and it organizes itself according to theme (Canada, Africa, etc.). It is full of exotic animals, some of which get who get to walk around (mostly the peacocks). You can easily spend a day here, and it's recommended for both adults... more
