We were staying at a resort on tunnel mountain trail and the main road thru Banff. It snowed the first 4 days so we decided to explore Tunnel Mountain Trail and saw at least 20 Elk at the top and when it comes back into town we saw 3 Red Deer grazing on someone's front lawn.

This is a easy, shorter distance hike which is accessed right from town. A great way to get some activity in on those days where you are not looking to go out hiking for a full day or even a half day.

Easily accessible from the town, the hike up is fairly easy to moderate and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.

A good trail with switchbacks to help with climb. 2.4 km one way to summit. Many places to enjoy the fantastic views of Banff and the Rockies. Busy trail with adults, kids and dogs.

We enjoy this little hike every time we in Banff - Great leg stretcher within town, with rewarding view at the top!

There are many more beautiful trails and scenic areas in Banff and Canmore. It is not bad by itself, but when you compare to the rest in the area, you can skip this if you don't have a lot of time.

So we set off for this trail in a blizzard! The trail itself goes through the woods, some steeper parts but a nice mixture of challenge and ease. The walk took us around 2.5hrs in total. The views from the top were amazing, especially in the snow. By the time we came down the snow had melted and it was... More

This is great for beginners and can be a quick workout for experienced hikers. The switchbacks make it feel like you are making good progress. I am a senior but can manage this trail.

GREAT elevation change, not for first time hikers but good for intermediate hikes. Very well marked with parking.
