Owner description: In one of the best cowboy comedies of all time, City Slickers, Billy Crystal and his two pals are all suffering a mid-life crisis. Their cure? A two-week cattle drive on horseback. At the end of their hilarious and heart-warming adventure the men find courage, friendship, and a new lease on life. Thanks to a 92-year-old non-profit organization - The Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies - you too can trade your mini-van for a mare and hit the mountains. The breathtaking beauty of the Rocky Mountains awakens the adventurist in all of us of what many believe is the most beautiful scenery in the world. This "walk in the park" (famous Waterton Lakes National Park - a World Heritage UNESCO Site, is like no other you will ever experience. The organization runs six separate six-day professionally-guided luxury trail rides from July to early August. Unlike most backcountry horseback trips, the Trail Riders set up a main camp and, at the end of each day on the trail, return to the camp for "happy hour," a gourmet dinner, and some much-needed shut-eye in the cozy teepees or tents, complete with cots and mattresses. A hot shower is available. Expect the evening to include any combination of: camp fire singing, cowboy poetry, square dancing, story telling, educational talks, skits and music. If you can stand a week of this fun and frivolity, you will become a member in this historic and western cultural society. Horse experience is not essential as this is a "dude operation" and many of the guests are over 50 and female! Put it this way; if there ever was a quintessential, "bucket-list" Western Canadian trip, this is it!

What an awesome experience for my wife and I - both seniors! The staff from the outfitter that accompanied us (Lindsey, Elizabeth, Jimmy, Trevor, Barb and Bea) are knowledgeable about the area, the horses and mules, and genuinely care about us. The food was amazing and the scenery breathtaking. We stayed at a 'permanent' camp at Flint's Peak - slept... More

My 13 year old daughter & I thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day trail ride in Banff's backcountry. Our camp was nestled next to a river at the base of a magestic mountain. With no electronics and despite being the only child on the ride, my daughter flourished in this wild & beautiful environment, making many wonderful new friends amongst both... More

All I can say is wow! What a great trip, ok on the first day we had sun, rain and thunder but hey ho as it's quiet common to get all seasons in one day when up in the Canadian Rockies! What a great trip, the staff were great, the horses fantastic and the cooks wonderful! The food the dished... More

As a total antidote to the crowds in Banff and surrounding areas two friends and I took a road less travelled with the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies. What a wonderful experience. Great horses that were well matched to the experience or lack thereof of their riders. The scenery was amazing and the horses were quiet enough to photograph... More

This trip was spectacular. Not only did it involve challenging some fears (riding horses up mountains), but it also involved stunning scenery, awesome people, GREAT food, and really fun evenings singing along to guitars and accordions. Everything is very well run and I literally have nothing bad to say. I wasn't sure what to expect when going. I knew the... More

We had a great time. We had never ridden before, and I have to say, the horses were the best, were good and patient with their new riders. The cowboys and cowgirl were very attentive and great help when ever needed, and they were great fun, too. Can't say enough for the cooks as the meals were the best and... More

Fabulous trip. Great horses, fantastic scenery and incredible food! The cowboys were a terrific help, especially for people like myself who had not ridden for 25+ years. The cooks were amazing, creating gourmet meals from scratch every day! Just need to get more cooperation from Parks Canada to allow TRCR to get into the back country more often so that... More

If you want to escape the crowds and get into the majestic Canadian Rockies this is the way to do in. We saw no other people during our ride and had spectacular places to ourselves. Some riding experience would be helpful however the horses are well mannered and sure footed. so you can soak up the scenery without watching your... More

I went a few years ago, on a ride out of Banff. I hadn't been on a horse for over 30 years and I had an absolutely awesome time. Food was good, and the people, guides and staff were great. But nothing beats the 'Cowboy coffee' If you have never had some, you are missing the best coffee in the... More

I have been going on these trail rides for over 20 years and have never done anything that even compares. I really, really enjoy being around the horses and the special bond made with all the people. The guides and staff are very caring and knowledgeable. Great cooks, great food, and quality horses. I like being in the wilderness where... More
