This route is really worth a visit. The highlight is the Athabasca Glacier which you can actually walk on. If you are based in Banff it is a 400km round trip so it will take you most of the day. The are many spots on the way to stop at and take photos. It would be a real shame if... More

We only made it as far as the Athabasca glacier center, but what an experience. More things to see than we had time for. If I did this trip again, would book one night in Jasper so we could do the entire ride. I highly recommend the GyPSy app (or one of the similar GPS guide apps) to help you... More

Consistently spectacular views-- if you can squeeze this into your itinerary do it. As the name of the book says "Don't Waste Your Time in the Rockies"!. This is a must do. Simple.

Beautiful drive! We parked at the "toe" of the Athabaskan glacier and walked up. Windy and cold, even in July. It's worth it though to see the power of the glacier.

We drove it from south to north (Banff to Jasper). Initially, I was little underwhelmed as the pine and evergreen trees somewhat inhibited the view. But then that changed somewhere around Crowfoot Glacier, and from that point on it was the most scenic drive I've experienced. The weather wasn't always great, we had a mix of sun and clouds, a... Sandwiched between Banff and Jasper, this attraction is quite collosal and surprisingly well managed. There was little time to wait (for a pre-booked visit) and we rode high on the back of a 30-seater ice bus. The guy driving was full of good ideas and stories so made the 15 minute journey to the glacier up/down 40 degree inclines, exciting.... More

Many beautiful lakes, mountainuous surrounding, many with glaciers, valleys, waterfalls and many more. You will not drive on it in just 1 days. You will lose too many beautiful walk and scenery. I drive on it in 5 days.

I am sure the views are wonderful if the day is sunny. They were good on the two rainy days when we tried to view the peaks and glaciers. We went to the Icefield Centre (crowded!), then turned around as the weather was just terrible. That said, Bow Lake and Peyto Lake are amazingly beautiful regardless of the weather. I... More

The area highway between Lake Louise and Jasper is referred to as the Iceland parkway. This is a scenic drive and traffic is thick during summer. One can make numerous stops to view lakes, mountains and also go on trails. Along the way is the Columbia icefield where one can go right on top of a Glacier. This whole region... More

We left Canmore to go to the Icefield Parkway. What a neat trip! Every curve in the road provided us with a jaw dropping view! SPECTACULAR!!!! We did not take the tour--to expensive. We ate at the Columbia Icefield...very nice! Not a bad price. I would go back again, if we are in the area. Oh, yes! The STAIRS from... More
