We visited the valley a year ago and it was a stunning site. The vista is so large. Massive mountains and so barren

Drove up the long steep, dirt road into the Kananaski mountains. Was lucky enough to spot a large bull moose on the opposite side of a meadow, stayed for several hours waiting for a photo of it standing up. We got the photo. Drove back onto the main dirt track and within 5 minutes had found a young bull and... More

We decided to avoid the highway and took The Kananaskis Trail. It's was a beautiful drive, through picturesque scenery, past rivers, over mountains, and through forests. There are plenty of places to stop along the way, for walks or photo opportunities. One place we stopped was Canoe Meadows. It's beside a river, with a nice forest walk down to it... More

It was wonderful to be in the Kananaskis Valley. The expanse is breathtaking. The mountains flawless and the rivers meandering lazily. We even spotted a grizzly cub. Did not get any closer as the mama would have been around. Unfortunately the Golf Course was closed when we visited it.

The Kananaskis Valley is a great spot. We visited in September 2013. We travelled most of the Highway, which was well maintained with some muddy sections because of the floodings last summer. The area is not as touristy as nearby Banff, but nature as pretty, maybe a bit rougher. The camping areas were mostly closed for the season. There are... More

That was my first time skiing, but in Kananaskis is one of the best places to skiing in the hole Canada. They had the Olympics there, so I can say that this is one of the best places to ski. There is also a amazing view of the rocky mountains and people of all around the world go there to... More

We visited Kananaskis Valley with family who are very familiar with the area. It was quite a drive in to get to the specific location they were after and the roads are unsealed. Plenty of parking and bathroom facilities. We snow shoed up a hiking trail there. Only saw a couple of other people during the time we were there.... More

Safety first, but enjoyment a close second. We were able to do this as part of the Rocky Mountaineer experience. It was a smooth ride from start to finish. I got to sit in the front seat next to the pilot. It was my sixth time in a helicopter but my first as a co-pilot. The pilot gave an informative... More

If you think of hikes away from regular tourist attractions in Banff/Jasper National Parks then Kananaskis is the answer. With lots of hike trails, lakes and mountains, etc. it can be very rewarding. Just a word of caution is to watch out for bear activity in the month of August when they feed a lot on berries in preparation for... More
