Cholla Bay is a densely packed with houses and not much else.There are a few bars and restaurants are there. I think I would skip it all together next time I travel to Rocky Point.

Stay on the road that goes past the resorts. It turns into a sand road, but it is well maintained and even if you are driving a mini-van you'll be just fine. Go straight past "Wrecked at the Reef" (a very nice bar / restaurant that until recently was a real dive) and stay on the road into town. There...

more authentic and less touristic than old town Penasco - great sand dollar hunting and clamming when tide is out - very shallow shelf margin when tide is in so save for kids to play in the water - town has reasonably priced and SAFE restaurants

This is a most unique village with a mixture of the very wealthy and the very poor.

Cholla Bay is north of Sandy Beach and encompasses a colony of high-end seaside colorful cottages. These homes are side by side and full of charm. Take a ride up here if you have time. It's worth the drive.
