If you like beachcombing, go to Cholla Bay at low tide. Lots of clams and octopus to be had by the eager and/or skilled digger/fisher. Found many sand dollars, sea stars, conch shells, etc. Swimming is also great, since the water is incredibly calm and shallow for a long way out. Warm water just like all of Puerto Penasco, maybe... JJ's is the best part of this area. It's been around forever and has a really cool outdoor area with views of the bay. The rest of the town is not for me. It's rustic and hasn't changed since my family first visited in the early 1980's. I love the town of Puerto Penasco, I love Sandy Beach area, I... More

Long before I visited Cholla I had heard the rumblings about this get away ! I was a military brat traveling all over, Taiwan , Korea, Japan, Brazil ,well you get it !, So when I found a place 3.5 hours away , with an ocean, beach camping, fishing, quads, sand rails, sailing, dancing and the worlds most beautiful sun... In reading these reviews about Cholla Bay and Rocky Point, it is clear that a select few tourists just don't get it. Sadly, the 'ignorant, ugly American' is alive and well. They seem to fail to remember that this is MEXICO, a 2nd or 3rd world country...Not South Beach, Florida, or Huntington Beach, CA with Hard Rock Cafes or the... More

I've been to Cholla Bay 5 times now since 2001. It's not for those looking for a crazy drunken weekend. it's for those who want to relax and enjoy doing nothing. reading, eating, hanging out on the beach or patio overlooking the water, clam digging, kayaking, fish tacos, sleeping in the sun. Enjoying family and leaving your cel phone and... More

Cholla Bay might be a great place to look for sand dollars, but other than that, not to much there. Things seemed to be closed when we were there mid-week. Maybe more to do on the weekend.

We just did a drive by, but the area was so cute, with typically abandoned buildings that are unfinished to gorgeous little houses. The bay is lovely and a sight to see.

We enjoyed walking on the beach. We stopped at JJ's and almost deserted as was the whole town. I know this is the off season, but it was a little creepy.

Nice and old town, quiet, friendly people and out of the way of the busy town. Easy to get there... you can easily go fishing, plenty of fish all over!! We enjoyed the beach, nice walk....
