Cool place to rent a house

Kind of a community of expats on their own on the other side of the big sand dunes. Only negative is there is a big tide which means no water to swim in for 1/2 the day.

I wish we would have found this place earlier in the day. We had a great time looking for shells and even found an angry blue crab. We're not big swimmers but love just exploring. We did have to ask a local how to get to it.

Cholla Bay town looked like it was mostly vacation homes set in a dust bowl on the ocean. We found a public area near the water and had a 10 minute walk over some treacherous rocks to get to a fishing place. You have to watch it if the tide is coming in or you can get stuck and not... More

50 years ago this place was dusty dirty backwater refuge for low cost dwellers seeking beachfront property. Now there are more of the same not making it any better.

So I am biased, As I have a house here. The gentleman who referred to it as a "redneck riviera" has zero clue what he is talking about. zero. Yes there are some houses that are not used and not upgraded, however more then not are or are in the process. And the ones that are done would be very... More

It is somewhat typical of Mexico, however the tide change is impressive! Great place to bring a rake and collect some clams at low tide

This community has a few nice houses but overall it is run down with trailers and cheap houses. Dirt roads everywhere so lots of dust. It also is a bit of a drive from downtown. Best thing to do in the area is go to JJ's cafe which has alot of the action in the area.

This is a quaint fishing village north of Peurto Penaso, and we toured here for something to see. You will travel a gravel, dusty road to village. there is a small Cantina, (JJ's worth the stop). An eclectic bounty of homes, Small to a and VERY Large Castle built into the rocks. Bought 50 Lbs of Shimp here for the... More

Drove around and saw some pretty funky houses. Right on the ocean with beautiful views. All dirt roads (in good condition) so be careful if you have a car rental.

We have visited Cholla Bay while RV camping at the Reef. Great little community with a few restaurants that are reasonably priced for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as drinks. Great views and if you like to clam this is the place to go during low tide on the mud flats. Great medium sized clams for the taking. Worth... More
