We had a wonderful day out yesterday at Colne Valley. We are a family with a young child (19 months) and felt it was a lovely attraction for an afternoon. We had a Groupon voucher, which entitled you to entry, unlimited rides on the steam hauled train and the miniature railway. I believe the site is run entirely by volunteers,... More

The key to the Colne Valley is its 1 mile of track. No sooner have you started moving that you're stopping and going back the other way. This, to me, restricts the place to either die hard rail enthusiasts and small children (with parents!) who simply enjoy being on the train with distance travelled being almost irrelevant. Everything else is... More

We visited today with our three year old son using a Groupon voucher. We had an enjoyable morning and took a picnic lunch with us. There is plenty to see for a few hours but wasn't a full day out. Our son enjoyed the miniature railway ride although it did feel a little unsafe ! The place feels a little... More

We took our grand children aged 3 and 7 to the railway on Thursday 21st Aug. we were lucky enough to enjoy lovely weather. You can expect to spend at least 2 hours there, if like us , you take full advantage of the train rides, both the miniature one and the full sized one and the other attractions. Our... More

Staying in the area on holiday and as a steam railway enthusiast we decided to take our grandson to experience a steam railway for the first time. The literature at the cottage we were staying in made it look quite attractive. On the day we visited there was only a small engine in operation and we were surprised that the... More

We used a Groupon voucher for today's visit. Yes, the attraction is looking a little tired, but it really is charming. We went with 9, 8 and 5 year olds and they really enjoyed their trip back in time! The staff were friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy educating the children and answering their many questions. It's not a full... More

We visited on the 30th July...I'm a keen railway enthusiast and my wife came along with the dog for a day out. It was a baking hot day....30 degrees in the shade...and the wife just wanted to sit with the dog...who was struggling with the heat...whilst I had a ride on the train. Every other Heritage Railway I have visited...and... More

We visited recently, with an 8yr old and 6yr old in tow. I agree with what others have said.....we had done our train ride, been on the miniature railway, looked at the model railways and been in the 'museum' all within 2 hours. There's not actually much more there to look at. The overall feeling at CVR is one of... More

A little tired looking (presumably related to funding) but still a charming day out. The actual steam train line is short, but still a hit with the kids. The miniature railway (really for kids but plenty of room for us adults to squish in to!) was a big hit. Diner car basic but you can bring your own food; we... More

Birthday day out with family, introducing my 20 month old to steam trains after reading Thomas the Tank Engine. Not quite sure what to expect as we passed the rusting rolling stock on way to the car park, however things picked up on reaching the platform and seeing the locomotive ready to leave. Small boys were not quite sure what... More
