My grandson is a massive fan of Thomas the Tank Engine and collects all the trains so my daughter decided to buy tickets for the "Thomas" themed day at Colne Valley Railway as a treat for my husband!s Father's Day present. We all really enjoyed the it. My husband loved seeing all the old steam trains and it brought back... More

We were not sure what to expect, but there was more to see and do than we thought there would be and we had a lovely day out. Everyone who works/volunteers there was so friendly and you could really feel their enthusiasm for trains and it rubbed off on all of us. We loved going on the steam train, the... More

We paid £44 for a family ticket, (2 adults, our 6 year old daughter and 2.5 year old son). We thought it was a lot of money before we set off, but thought the adverts looked good, so it should be worth the money and our son who is Thomas mad will have a fantastic time - after all, this... More

We really enjoyed the railway. Excellent parking, toilet facilities a little basic but this is a working railway. Really nice lady in the gift shop and on the ticket desk. Something for adults, kids and grandma and granddad. BUT have given an average mark because the Café in the stationary railway carriage is awful. They don't seem to know the... More

The place is great so much going on from the normal steam and diesel trains that you can ride on as many times as you like for just the admission fee. A great miniature railway is just loved by all ages and again NO extra charges. The model layouts are great and you can spend hours just looking at the... More

We took our grandson here yesterday and had a really great time. As well as riding on the steam-hauled train and miniature railway there was a museum, mail train exhibition and model train layouts. The station is nostalgically presented and the catering was extremely good. It was cheering to see a number of youngsters working alongside the older stalwarts! We... More

This place is amazing! Took my grandson to special event - Peppa Pig and George and had unlimited access to these characters. So much to see and do - unlimited rides on the full size trains both steam and diesel, unlimited rides on the mini railway, going through the tunnels was exciting, as well and watching and operating some items... Having taken my grandchild back for the second year to the railway to see Peppa and George, we could not get her away. This we finally managed to do only because it was closing time and she had no choice. There was so much for her to look at and do and we saw Peppa several times, she's not stopped talking... More

Where do I start! We had a voucher for 2 for 1 to go and just because there was someone dressed as peppa pig they expect you to pay way too much (£9 per adult and £5 per child so we paid £24 total!) For what its actually worth! The woodland walk was disgusting and covered in poo and the... More

The Visit Essex voucher scheme clearly states not valid for special events. All our special events are clearly shown on our website and leaflet. With the exception of Day Out with Thomas events, we do not charge extra for special events. We also review all our prices against both other railways and other local attractions and have found our prices... More

Having read some of the reviews on trip advisor of this railway I went with low expectations. Happily these were dispelled by my visit. I arrived mid afternoon and there was a steam service running along with a pullman dining experience. I paid admission which included travel on the steam service and access to all the exhibits. As has been... More
