Definitely worth the drive from NS's South Shore. We were lucky enough to have Dana Brown, a very experienced guide, lead us on our walk on the beach to look at the fossils. We'd not even stepped off the staircase onto the beach and he was already pointing out interesting rock formations, fossils and coal seams. We learned so much,... More

Three of us signed up for one of the first 2-hour guided tours of the season. It was a beautiful day, and when we arrived the tidal flats stretched as far as we could see. Our guide warned us though that the famous Bay of Fundy tide would be rising 41 feet in the next few hours, restricting the part... More

I recently visited the fossil beach at Joggins. The view is spectacular and the fossils abound. Truly a wonderful site. The only thing that distracted from a wonderful visit was the trail and stairway to the beach. This is a very difficult endeavour and in fact is more difficult than the walk along the beach. The steps are of irregular... More

My wife and I were interested in seeing the fossils at Joggins. We knew that it was a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and that it had been mentioned in Darwin's book, the Origin of the Species, but we really didn't know what to expect. It was a little difficult to find - perhaps we just missed the signs but... More

Even if you are not keenly interested in geology this is a must see. It is one of those places where you can get a quick overview or spend time studying the exhibits in detail. For the more casual observer 1-2 hours might suffice but more time would be better, especially if it is a nice day. The day we... More

If you have any knowledge or interest in fossils, geology, or just a basic curiosity about the history of the earth, this is a fabulous place to spend some time. If not, the scenery is spectacular and will give you a sampling of what the Bay of Fundy is all about. The displays in the museum are well done and... More

The information is very thorough and to fully appreciate it needs time. It leaves one thinking that nothing on this earth is the same forever. The views of the Bay of Fundy are spectacular so take binoculars with you. Also, take the country roads to and from the site to better enjoy your trip.

There are a few things one should do in the Tantramar region -- visit the forts, walk the Sackville waterfowl park, sight-see in some of the lovely little villages, and visit the fossil cliffs and museum in Joggins. this is a new UNESCO world heritage site. It isn't spectacular, but it is very nice in a low-key way that is... More

The cliffs are so rich in fossils that they seem to be almost everywhere you look. Take a lot of pictures, because you are not allowed to remove any fossils (this is the law in Nova Scotia). We found the guided tour very helpful, and saw some fossils that we might not have seen on our own. The museum is... More

Yes, you can find fossils while you are just walking on the beach. Make sure you have your camera since that is the only way to take them with you - photos only.
