Owner description: Capt. Rick's Sportsfishing has 15 boats to choose from...from a 48' Viking to a 31' Bertram. The captains are English speaking and have at least 10 years experience fishing these grounds. All the fishing is done trolling dead baits using 20 to 30 lb. Shimano or Penn gear. Many of our boats also have a fighting chair. Two of our Captains are also experts at fly fishing, in which case you must provide your own gear. Of course, all billfish are released. Every year there are double digit grand slams (a sailfish, white and blue marlin in one day) and sometimes there are double grand slams (two slams in one day) and super grand slams (add a swordfish.) Other abundant fish are: wahoo, dorado, tuna, kingfish, and barracuda. Best of all - we set our baits right as we exit the marina! No travel time. We have caught sails so close we have released them in the marina.

What a great experience! From the very beginning you can tell the crew at Captain Rick's knows what they're doing. Naturally there is a instructional / disclaimer period before you board the ship which usually would be a little boring since everyone just wants to get going already. Even this part was fun as they breezed thru it and added... More

We have returned to Puerto Aventuras and our first stop as usual is Captain Rick's for some deep water fishing. Kathy and I are always comfortable with any boat that is available but usually request The Big Fish and its very fun Captain Pascal. While Captain Ricks is the best at taking us to places to catch fish as fisherman... More

We came to relax in the Riviera, and get away from everything. I have to say the highlight of the trip was having a complete week of being with my amazing wife. A distant second, but WAY ahead of anything else was the day spent on the ocean on the Big Fish with Captain Rambo and his two crew. We... More

Three years in a row with great fishing! Glenna took care of us again. We brought 30 fish on board with a half day trip. Excellent captain Dave and mate Sol. Four kids and one adult had a great time. See you next October, your KY friends, Go CARDS!

If you are thinking about going with Captain Ricks, I would reconsider. We booked the Big Fish boat particularly to have room and air condidtioning. We were told to arrive by 8AM the morning of our charter which left at nine. I am not sure why. We took a taxi and got there at ten to eight and signed in.... More

First let me say that the crew should have happily given you the fish you asked for. There is usually no problem, and as you said, that is an especially outgoing crew. I am working with them on it. I contacted you to find out exactly which day you went out. That would help me address the air conditioner problem.... More

The crew were exceptional and we hired a boat for half the day. They worked really hard and seemed as happy as us (if not happier when we landed some fish). It was a bit choppy so the kids felt queasy, actually we all did. We then stopped the trawling and did some regular deep water fishing (rods over the... More

As an avid offshore big game angler I thought after speaking with the people who booked this trip i was being told the truth. Basically they take you for a boat ride any time of the year and say they are catching billfish. Mate told me they do the exact same run, down the beach 4 hours and back 4... More

I am sorry you were disappointed with your trip. While it is true that our major migration is March through June, there are many fish on the other days including wahoo, barracuda, and kingfish. We do have a resident population of sailfish here and we bottom fish for snapper and grouper. As an experienced angler I a sure that you... More

We scheduled an all day trip. The fishing was great. My son brought in a Remora, he was excited. We also caught a Barracuda & a 61/2 foot Hammerhead Shark. It took a lot of effort to reel the Shark in. Six different people worked on bringing it in. Who knew that fishing is a team sport. What an experience!... More
