To go to see and experience the water that is bath water in temperature and to jump in a dark lagoon to see the glow of the algae that is in it a certain time if the year is super cool. You glow in the dark as you swim in it. Another nice thing is to go and see the... More

The lagoon was recommended to me by the air traffic controller of the airport. He showed me the outline that was visible and told me that it is a good place to visit by night. So I asked the hotel and they indeed had an organized tour in the night. Two words can describe the experience: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Totally worth... More

Before the visit, I checked the comments other visitors made, and to be honest, I was expecting nothing. However, for my surprise, it was not only good, it was amazing. Totally worth going. it's a must go. And of course, go by night. It's absolutely safe. To see the stars, and the effects of the planctons, it's so beautiful. When... More

I went on the night boat tour with friends and it was awesome. You can ask around about it from the street fair in downtown PE. I think the night tours begin around 10pm. You take a cab about 10-15 min from the center of town and it drops you off at the building where an employee explains about the... More

Gina Machorro, the unofficial tourist expert of Puerto Escondido, booked us (and went with us) on a night tour of Laguna de Manialtepec to see the glowing water of the laguna. It was amazing to see the water glowing with light from the properties in it. Even when other guests went swimming in that water, they glowed also!

We visited Laguna de Manialtepec twice during our visit. We were lucky enough to be there during the phosphorescence period, and we took a boat ride in the lagoon and swam in the luminescent water. A once-in a lifetime experience. A week later, we did a bird watching tour of the lagoon, with a fantastic guide who was able to... More

Thanks to Michael Malone of Hidden Voyages and a group of very experienced bird watchers this 6 hour trip on the Laguna was a great experience. I saw and photograph quite a few new bird species to me and really enjoyed the expert commentaries by Michael not only about the birds but the history and controversy with fishermen about Laguna...
