On the west end of Laguna Manialtepec is Puerto Swelo. We got there by boat(from the Laguna), great place to eat, Jaunita made us more lunch than we could possibly finish, then walked down the beach to where the Laguna exits into the Pacific...there were literally hundreds if not thousands of birds. After a swim,( it was a nice swimming... More

My wife and I have visited Laguna Manialtepec on three occasions and each time have come away from the experience gobsmacked by the beauty and serenity of the nature on display there. We have always booked through Lalo Ecotours and always been fortunate to have Eve (rhymes with Chevy) as our guide. He is Mexican and lives at the little... More

We visited La Laguna de Manialtepec with Michael Malone's "Hidden Voyages Ecotours." There are other companies one can go with, and it's possible to get yourself to the small jumping-off point and negotiate a boat (20 minutes north/west from Puerto Escondido) but I felt that Mr. Malone more than justified his tour price. He and his driver pick you up... More

Manialtepec is a lovely lagoon created by a barrier sand bar near Puerto Escondido. There are dozens of species of birds that all start roosting in the early evening so you'll have a good chance to see them. The phosphorus at night, especially on a moonless night, is not to be missed.

one of the few truly natural spots to see birds and a beautiful lagoon. Go at night for the phosphorus during the full moon, or a bird watching tour with Mike Malone.

Great tour of the lagoon. Over 150 species of birds there. We saw about 50. First time I have seen a mangrove and it was a great experience. The guide's English was excellent.
