My husband and I stayed with friends in their home in Malaque. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious! I have stomach problems and never felt better while there ! Probably due to no chemicals in the food! Everyone was friendly and I felt safer walking down the streets at 10 pm there than I would here at home. The... More

I was a little dissapointed with Melaque. It has a nice beach but not that great for swimming as too ruff. This is mostly a retirement town of Canadians. Not sure why.The streets are dirty and the shops are dusty and the restaurants are very expensive for Mexico. The hotels are cheap enough but you get what you pay for! Hard... More

At the water taxi area of Barra, you will see a large banner advertising Fortino's Restaurant. Those Fortinos are hardworking family members (many of them) owned and operated many businesses... the restaurant across the lagoon, a fish farm, a hotel and bar in town and fishing charter. We had the grand pleasure of spending time with different family members and... More

This is a super safe and comfortable town to expore. People are friendly and happy to interact with tourists. Hurricane Jova was only one month past when we arrived and we could not find signs of flooding or damage - the amount of work and clean up is amazing. Barra was harder hit. It actually feels good to be a... More

One of the reasons why I stayed one month longer in Barra de Navidad was the opportunity to experience Semana San Patricio (St. Patrick's Day goes on for a week in Melaque...technically, San Patricio). The local residents honor their patron saint with a week long carnival and nightly fireworks displays that are set off from a three storey castillo. Once... More

La Paloma is arguably the best bet in Melaque. A beach front property with just 9 rooms all with kitchen facilities set in a delightful garden setting is just three blocks from the center of town and is a perfect place to spend a few days. Be warned though that the place gets booked ahead of time so reservations are... More

Recently my sister retired from teaching and travelled to Melaque for 4 months. She and my brother-in-law kindly asked my husband and I down for a week to "assess" the place as she is aware that I have travelled all the continents but Australia. I have never wanted to go to Mexico but I am now wishing my life away.... More

The comments made about the dogs in Melaque are appliccable to anywhere in Mexico. It is too bad for someone to write a report about a very friendly town where you are treated very well by the Nationals as well as the "Gringo" population there, basing it on a situation which is prevalent anywhere in Mexico. The animals that writer... More
