Yes, the crocodiles were cool to see. Huge, prehistoric looking, ominous characters, no doubt. But for this non-birder, the birds were even more fascinating. We saw over 30 varieties in less than two hours, and almost all possessed spectacular coloration or patterning. Our boat pilot took his time and gave all in our group a good look at whatever we... Our desk clerk at our little hotel suggested this group for our tour. He told us it was the best. It was 10:30 when we decided to take the 3:30 tour on the same day. We were picked up on time, received a cool drink when we arrived, and treated to a delightful tour. Not only did we see crocodiles,... More

There are several places offering this type of tour along the Tarcoles River - from what we could see this was the best one when it comes to comfort and services for it's customers. Our 2 hour crocodile tour ended up being almost 2 1/2 hours and included some awesome bird watching and lizard sightings. We got some great photographs.... More

We spent about two hours on a little boat exploring the Tarcoles River which is known for its abundance of crocodiles. We also visited the Mangrove which is a crucial habitat for a number of bird species. The Captain and Tour Guide in our boat had eagle eyes and were experienced "Birders". They pointed out numerous species of birds and other wildlife... More

The hour trip was amazing and shocking. Dozens of different birds up close. And don't forget crocodiles! We saw a 16 footer that swam right up to the boat. Also saw a pool of 10 smaller (6-8 foot ones). Boat was nice and clean. Was a blast!

This is the closest we've ever gotten to a crocodile without being scared. There were quite a few on the river and the guide even had names for most of them. We spotted some birds too. A pleasant ride.

My friend and I had so much fun on this excursion. I couldn't believe how many crocodiles we saw, and was also impressed by how many bird species were pointed out to us. It's easy to forget the crocodiles are predators when they're sunbathing, but our guide constantly reminded us how much humans need to respect them and amazingly, he... More

This is billed as a crocodile safari, and we saw a few crocodiles, but if we had never seen a crocodile, the tour would still have been amazing. In fact, my wife and I were only lukewarm in looking forward to this portion of our Costa Rican tour. However, we spotted such an array of beautiful, unusual birds that we... More

We went on the afternoon ride. It was nice and cool with the breeze. We saw lots of different birds and at least 20 crocodile! It was a very cool experience to see the crocs so close. The guides get right out and feed the crocs raw meat! It was insane if you ask me! Overall very good trip. Well... More

Wow!!! So many varieties of birds can be seen on this bird watching and crocodile watching tour. Two hours of unbelievable beauty on the Tarcoles River. The guides are very knowledgeable of the bird species that you will see sitting on the riverbank, in and on trees, flying in the air, soaring over the river. A truly remarkable tour! This... More
