A wonderful snapshot on these fascinating mamals, almost driven to extinction by other mamals. A small museum, but chock full of interesting facts. See the video. Located just up the road from several whale viewing opportunities.

Our visit started with an interesting but sad video about the history and the inhumane and devastating effect of whaling. Great exhibits showing whale migration patterns, diets, relative sizes, etc. At least one exhibit had sound, Learned about the impact of whaling on populations. There is a nice gift shop attached.

This is a small museum with clear and well displayed educational exhibits about whales. It is located right at the harbour.

There is not a lot in Pleasant Bay except whale watching and the center is a nice visit. It was a more modern center than I expected. Staff was very nice and eager to share information. A nice place to stop if you have kids.

Prior to our whale watching trip with Capt. Mark's we visited the Whale Interpretive Centre and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of information on cetaceans. The 9 min. video we watched of the history of whaling really shed a light on the how and why these creatures are almost extinct. The gift shop was very reasonably priced with quality... More

We spent a couple of days in Pleasant Bay in August 2012 and were looking forward to whale-watching. However, the weather was not up for it so we visited the Whale Interpretive Centre instead. I was pleasantly surprised by how much information was packed in this modest space :) I was especially moved by the life-size pilot whale replica and... More
