Not your grandmother's library

Just go - it is free, there are wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces, and fun events. Check out the murals in la Sala Quetzal. WONDERFUL.

Public library in wonderful colonial building with huge courtyard, this is the center of activity for expatriates in San Miguel. A weekly tour of homes and gardens is how we first came to this place. Expats perform many charitable activities which are centered here, benefiting the locals, especially the children of San Miguel. Great place to meet people!

It's an open air plaza where people meet to study together or learn a language from each other. Around the perimeter is a technology room for teens, a reading room for young kids, and then regular stacks and a small book store. Many community events occur there - saw ads for different things held there posted all over the city.... More

Not only is this a library (1/2 Spanish/ 1/2 English), it's got a cafe, a theater, & a book store. It also hosts & organizes several tours & publishes a weekly (English) newspaper. It's more like THE community center.

Old library with a lot of English language books that is more important if you want to read during your long stay in town, otherwise it is an interesting stop during your tour of the city. Lots of information is available from the bulletin board, and do not miss viewing the lecture hall's indigenous painting of the various Mexican tribes/peoples.... More

Wondered in to the Biblioteca Publica and was amazed at all the boards with information on what was going on in San Miguel de Allende, date, time, price. Great place if you need information and they have quite a few little events going on there as well.

A good service for free to be able to browse all their library material, and impressive that they have it at all. Talks held tend to vary a little in quality; ditto Sunday "House and Garden" tours, on our Sunday we lucked out and the second house was fabulous, first one not so. tour to Monarch Butterflies Reserve excellent.

Don't miss out on the Sunday visits to houses in San Miguel de Allende. And remember to get Attencion on a Friday so that you know what is going on for the week. The Bodega de Sorpresas has a selection of fine used clothing - especially useful if you run short on enough cool climate clothes or need a suit... More

This is a must for San Miguel visitors. It's really a hub of activities - you can always find out what's going on in the town by talking to people and checking the bulletin boards. They offer great tours and are extremely helpful in answering questions. We attended discussion groups, films, and concerts at the library - all very interesting... More

The Biblioteca has numerous books for borrowing in both English and Spanish and is also a peaceful place to hang out, with a small cafe to enjoy a drink or snack. The theatre there continually hosts documentaries, other movies, and entertainment. There are beautiful murals and other art to also be seen there.
