We were on a roadtrip and spent an extra day in San Miguel de Allende. This was a perfect place to be lazy. it was winter, so there were very few people there...a good thing. Not sure I'd like it if it were packed.

Who knew that floating around in warm clear water could be so exhausting!? This place is a little tricky to find. It is just past the turnoff for Nirvana Resort and Escondido Place (you can take that exit and drive a short block parallel to the highway, or take the next left turn (immediately after a mostly obscured large greenish... It's just a 10-15 minute taxi ride from SMA to a cute little resort. The resort itself is OK, but the real reason that you are there is to swim in the pools and hot spring. The grotto certainly has plenty of hot water and the cascade of hot water comes down with great force and is like getting massage.... More

This is a neat place to spend an afternoon and enjoy the sunshine and warm water. We went during Christmas break and it was pretty crowded, but my brother said it's usually pretty quiet. Even so, it didn't feel over run with people, although the pools were pretty busy, and one of the big ones was closed which created more... More

It's lovely to go here first thing in the morning while there aren't many people around, it's cold outside and the water is nice and hot and fresh. Lockers aren't available early in the morning nor are staff if you want to ask a question best wait until 830/9am. We got here about 715am after a snack in the car,... More

We visited La Gruta twice over the course of our 3 week visit of San Miguel de Allende in December. We thought it was a super relaxing break from the somewhat crowded and dusty streets of San Miguel. It was clean, and the pool that leads back into the Grotto was nice and warm to sit and catch the sun... More

Spent a wonderful afternoon at La Gruta, swimming in the hot springs and having brunch. A must go when in San Miguel. Open every day (don't bother to call or email they don't answer)

We love La Gruta! It has a beautiful garden, decent little restaurant, and a number of pools filled with mineral water of varying degrees of heat. The best is the cave which is the hottest and has a spout of hot water emerging from the rock. This only happens at certain times but it's like having a full body massage... More

La Gruta is a natural hot springs just a short drive out of San Miguel and well worth the trip. If you're a hot springs enthusiast like me, this is the place for you. There are multiple 'baths' varying in temperature, along with a special enclosed grotto to sooth your aching bones. Lockers are available to safely store your clothes... More
