The artisan market and open galleries were really enjoyable to walk through and speak with local artisans and artists. I did a good deal of shopping at this market and most vendors accepted major credit cards if you did not have cash on hand.

I was looking for a fun hands on experience for my kids 8 &11. I was hoping for a fun art project or cultural art experience. We got way beyond that at the Instituto Allende. We took a weaving class for three days. We happened upon it because we were left high and dry that morning by another weaver who... More

We went to the Instituto just to meander thru and check it out to see if it would be somewhere that we would like to study at. What a beautiful venue! Be sure to go and check out the art walk/market. Came home with 2 paintings!

you learn about SMdA and close your eyes and imagine what life was like when the Allende family lived in the building. It is a course in Mexican history just across the stree from the Parochia!

The Institute has cut back on its art classes since it glory days, but it still maintains a large Spanish language school. Its courtyard is well worth a visit and has a nice outdoor cafe perfect for lunch.

Amazing murals and interior courtyards. A place to savor the history, and have some quiet time. It serves as a great place to meet friends during a day spent independently exploring San Miguel de Allende.

We went because we were going to a specific gallery to see the paintings of Antonio Ramirez. Imagine our surprise when we entered the main courtyard and discovered what a gorgeous space it was! The central courtyard has a mural by famed Mexican muralist David Leonardo (who also has paintings in galleries in the Instituto) and there are many galleries... More

Usually I would list the food first and the entertainment last. The food is good enough, not exceptional, except for their amazing chipotle pecan soup, but the reason why I go back, maybe at least once a month, and certainly if we are hosting tourists, is the entertainment. There is world class musicians who play there regularly and a lovely... More
