Small, but very organized and helpful if you still do not know this part of history. You can read or even listen to several videos spread all over the beautiful well-cared house. I actually learned a lot and would recommend it.

Certainly the cradle of most of the cultural activity in San Miguel. Many upscale delis on the street leading there.

Instituo de Allende is a beautiful architectural building just outside the city center. Where artists come together. Similar but unlike other buildings in SMA. Also has a nice terrace where you can see a a beautiful view of the Parroquia.

Ignacio Allende was one of the principal figures in the battle for independence against Spain. this is the house where he was born, turned into a museum. It's located right next to the not to be missed Cathedral of St Michael the Archangel, so it's really easy to get to. you can get this done in about an hour and... More

The Institute used to be a hacienda so it is nice to visit to get some idea of how the wealthy used to live. You enter a large courtyard with a big central fountain. It has its own chapel and we saw to shows in what was the lengthy formal dining room. One evening there was a mother daughter flaminco... More

with a history of a fabulous art school the Instituto now houses a Spanish school, Life Long Learning courses, a beautiful terrace with great views of San Miguel and a wonderful restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. On special weekends the Instituto offers Art & Craft fairs in their large courtyard where vendors display handicraft from nearby villages and... More

The artisan market and open galleries were really enjoyable to walk through and speak with local artisans and artists. I did a good deal of shopping at this market and most vendors accepted major credit cards if you did not have cash on hand.

I was looking for a fun hands on experience for my kids 8 &11. I was hoping for a fun art project or cultural art experience. We got way beyond that at the Instituto Allende. We took a weaving class for three days. We happened upon it because we were left high and dry that morning by another weaver who... More
