NOV,2013. We took the train from El Fuerte to the Copper Canyon. If interested in El Fuerte and transportation to it from Los Mochis see my other post about Hotel Rio Vista. The train ride from the sea of Cortez to Copper Canyon is much more scenic than the route from the other direction. Fare from El Fuerte to Creel... More

Get the early morning train from Los Mochis on the coast. The views are spectacular as the train slowly winds through the tunnels, valleys and over many bridges. Get off near Copper canyon and get bus to Chihuahua is a better option. It's quicker by far. Buy your train ticket the day before and check 2nd class is running that... More

In short ... you must make this trip at least once in a lifetime. It's like you should visit Yosemite at least once. Or the Hoover Dam. This trip is a enginering marvel and amazing vistas at every corner. That having been said I'm going to make a few suggestions "off the beaten path" that might help you save a... More

We travelled on El Chepe for 3 days including two hotel overnight stops. The scenery was amazing, the service of the guards on the train was wonderful. They were really friendly and helpful with the luggage and tried so hard to help us despite the fact we cannot speak any Spanish. The toilets were simple but clean and the seats... More

I dreamed about going on the chepe train and when I did I was very disappointed. I took the first class because I expected to find something special. When I arrived at the train station in Chihuahua to buy my tickets the people were very un polite and said to me that they could not give any information that they... More

We have wanted to do this Copper Canyon trip for many years of coming to Mexico. We researched, and figured out it was better to leave from El Fuerte, than Los Mochis, as the ride from Los Mochis to El Fuerte was said to be boring. We spent the night in the charming town of El Fuerte, and the next... More

My husband and I just got back from a recent one week trip thru the Copper Canyon region in Chihuahua, Mexico. We boarded the train Chihuahua al Pacifico, better known as El Chepe really early in the morning in Chihuahua. The Primera Express or First Class leaves at 6 am. El Chepe is the only train that connects two states,... More

This trip was taken in May of 2012. El Chepe (the train that follows the Copper Canyon is an incredible journey. An amazing engineering feat, it also takes passengers through a wonderland of scenery. The most marvelous section goes from El Fuerte in Sinaloa to Creel in Chihuahua. We (4 friends) started our journey in El Fuerte (although this last... More

I took the ride from Los Mochis to Chihuahua and then on to Jaurez in 2003 with a three day layover in Creel that was one of the greatest adventures of my life. I stayed at a Hostel and found them a real treat. Of course I didn't take the tourist train, as usual I traveled the same way the... More
