The train journey is great with breath taking views. The only problem is that it is very long. The best thing is that you end up at the copper canyon and that makes up for everything. Make sure you take the zip lines down into the canyon.

The train is comfortable, although the ride is definitely not smooth. Along the way there is interesting countryside to see, rivers to cross and mountains to look at.

A fun & comfortable way to enjoy the sites of the Copper Canyon & Sierra Madre mountains! Comfortable & wide seats, large windows, comfortable temperature, good dining room service all combine to make this trek a must do! The scenery is breath taking and they do give a verbal tour along the way. Staff is excellent and friendly.

Nowhere else have we found is there a better, and infinitely more practical a way to explore and experience the network of gorges of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, than taking the 'El Chepe' railroad from Chihuahua to Los Moches, near the Gulf of California. We began from the sprawling city smattered with examples of Spanish Colonial architecture. From here... More

Be sure to buy a first class ticket. Those cars have comfortable seating, gracious conductors, well-armed security personnel onboard, and access to the dining car. They don't want you to eat at your seats, so having access to the dining car is important on an 8-hour trip. The views from the train once you are in the mountains is spectacular.... More

Train was ok and on time going up, nice ride up but take your own food, no selection on the train, when we arrived had lunch at the hotel and were going to tour the next day to further up the canyon but it was SNOWING and stormy so did nothing there, caught the train back down, had to wait... The train is very confortable, the sights are breathtaking, you have to be a bit patience, tough, because it is not so fast, but if you want to relax and enjoy a typical train tour, with a lot of tunels and views you should do this trip. It is clean, safe, and beautiful.

The trip began in Los Mochis and ended in Creel. We were happy to learn we COULD buy economy tickets 3 days in advance. We did this. The next morning the line for tickets was as legendary as the ride. We skipped the queue and were the first to grab seats in our car. There were 10 cars altogether, so... More

Wonderful scenery. Leave the train at various stations to spend the night at local hotels and to look around the area.
