Make no mistake, it's a long ascent to the Citadelle! Give yourself enough time to get up there and explore the whole thing, because there are fabulous nooks and crannies everywhere, plus you can take a hike in the woods if you want to get away from stone for a while. But nothing will beat the panoramic views from the... More

Stayed at Camping Du Brec and walked into the town. The small squares in the centre are very quaint and the town is best admired wandering around the tiny back streets and alleys throughout the town.

Quaint streets, a wonderful atmosphere and lots of characterful shops & eateries. The citadel itself provided great views over the walled town. There's a carving in one of the interior walls that is just so beautiful If you forget your €6 (in coins) to get in, prepare for a long walk!

When you cross the small bridge to Entrevaux town there's a small not-that-obvious shop on the left. Buy your tokens ("jeton") from here, cash only. Those tokens are used to operate the turnstile that leads you into the citadel. On entering there's a gunpowder room to the left (you can open the door, glance in, and walk away). To the... More

Climb it and enjoy the view. Many nice local shops in the old village. Some great restaurants too. Then drive up the hill facing Entrevaux for an amazing view of the Citadelle itself.

Optimistically (and rather foolishly!), we set off on this mammoth climb thinking we may get some refreshment at the top. Of course, that was not the case, and really, why should it be? So would recommend that you take water (at least) for the climb. It is steep, it is hot (and likely to be very hot in the middle... More

Not for the faint hearted. Remember less oxygen at altitude and this climb is a killer. But do it! You can feel the medieval history and the views are stunning. This is a very special place reached from Nice on the Train de Pignes. The train ride itself is a must. D,not just stay on the coast. Explore. It's well... More

The Citadelle was partly restored in the last century by the local community. Unfortunately, it is not maintained very well. So when you manage to climb to the top (could take a while depending how fit you are and how hot is the weather) there are 3 major thing to see: the prison, the rooms of the officers and of... More

If you want to go for a long zigzag walk up a steep hill for a great view over the valley then this is quite accessible, going through a turnstile on the edge of Entrevaux for 3E. But it is hard work and you need to take some water/food with you. There is nothing exciting at the top, just a... More

A beautiful lower Alps town to see 90 mins on train, we caught the 9.25 train I would suggest the 7am train so the walk up to citadel will be bit a cooler, take water none up top,,then visit the motor bike museum when back down, has some nice eatery's / bar's ,try and time it to catch the next...
