Visiting Allihies, you could be forgiven for thinking that some space warp had taken you to the Cornish tin and copper mining country. This is because the Cornish miners were imported into the Beara peninsula to develop the Irish copper industry. The whole development, from prehistoric times to the present day, is shown in the museum using pictures and photos,... More

Never made it into the museum itself, though dare say it's fascinating. Found a table out of the wind but in the sun out the back and whiled away an hour with coffee and the most delicious home-made cake.

Small but very good Museum. We visited the museum just after completing the nearby walk to the Copper Mines. Do both! If you do visit, have a scone and a cup of coffee in the museum restaurant as it is as good as you will get.

Worth the journey across Ireland to see rare example of mining history well preserved in virtually the most far flung part of Cork and indeed the most westerly on the island of industrial archaeology, the engine houses remind one of Cornwall. The little museum in Ahillies is a delightful place to visit and its cafe also whether inside or if... More

A café and the museum are housed together, allowing you to sit back and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee as you discuss what you learned about the mine and surrounding area. Small but very educational, a must stop if staying in the area.

Very informative museum and while there have a coffee and something to eat from their menu. The food tastes delish and this is my return visit and wasn't disappointed.

2nd time and wont be the last...great place to stop for a bite to eat and to look at the art on the walls and upstairs i.e. you don't have to pay unless you go to the Muesuem...which is well worth a visit. I had the St Tola's Goat Cheese salad with local honey and it was divine....all fresh ingredients,... More

went to the allihies copper mine museum and cafe recently, the museum has an extreme amount of information and pictures for the visitor and it is in pristine condition. The cafe was okay, pleasant staff, food was 7/10 so good overall

The cafe is worth the trip alone. Excellent home baked bread and cakes, light lunches and a great breakfast menu mean that we are regular visitors. The coffee is also great. The museum is well done and very informative of the local copper mining activities.

This museum is set in an old church in the charming and remote Village of Allihies, Co. cork. The exhibits are well done and the history is fascinating. I would have liked to see more actual miners' clothes, particularly the women's and children's who also worked there. Learned a lot.
