My boyfriend & I decided to have cocktails here 8/20/2009 and thoroughly enjoyed it! This place is so unique-a cave with stalactites and stalagmites everywhere, natural streams-absolutely AMAZING! Our cocktails weren't very strong, but still tasty he ordered an appetizer that wasn’t very appetizing, however we’d already heard that it wasn’t the place to go for dinner so we weren’t... more

We had dinner on Tues. Aug.4 at at El Alux after seeing the pictures on Trip Advisor. I emailed a couple of days early to get a reservation and got an interesting response. "Your bed will be ready for your arrival at 8 p.m." I wasn't sure what I had reserved, but we went anyway. We were told we could... more

My husband and I visited El Alux one night in June 2009. It is a really cool atmosphere, being a lounge in a cave / cenote. They have a good drink list (lots of variety), although it was a bit expensive. We also ate dessert there, chocolate cake. I thought that the cake tasted horrible (and I love sweets). It... more

Now, isn't that cool -- a restaurant in a cave. We discovered this restaurant by reading about it on trip advisor, and we were very impressed. The drinks are expensive -- we ordered 4 Mojitos which cost 690 pesos (ugh) and then you add a tip on top of that. I had a peek at the dinner menu, and I found... more

This place was incredible, a bar and restaurant inside a cenote (underground cave). We only had drinks because I saw other reviews about the food not being great. The margaritas were sweet but good--drinks are definitely expensive but worth it for the atmosphere. There is a tour guide who will show you around and works only on tips. I would... more

I’m really surprised this place wasn’t packed. Perhaps the expensive drinks keep people away. But honestly, it is worth the trip and the drink prices to at least hang out at the bar and take a tour of the caves with a tour guide. more

My mother and I had dinner and drinks at El Alux, I couldn't miss it after seeing the photos on TripAdvisor. The second we got to the entrance I knew this would be like nothing I had ever experienced before. I felt like I was descending into another world...I loved every second I was there. I couldn't help but look... more

This was the coolest place we went while in Playa. It was so beautiful, such a strange, unique experience to have cocktails in a cave. In the US, we are not allowed to touch anything in caves, as they are protected by the government, and there, they walk you around, encourage you to touch things, gave us a private tour... more

I did not eat any food at this restaurant, but had heard about it while doing research for our trip. I had to ask a local to get directions because the Los Aluxes on 5th is not the same. The local asked how I had heard about this place. I told him the internet. He was surprised because he said... more

After reading the recommendations on tripadvisor we decided to have a meal here. We visited on a Sunday evening and the photographs we have taken do not do justice to the cave. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Our waiter showed us to a table which was actually part of the cave covered in a table cloth - we ordered a bottle... more
