We have been to Sotuta de Peon twice now and both times have really enjoyed the tour. It is fascinating to see how henequen rope is made, (also knows as Sisal...which is another story from the tour!). Guides speak both Spanish and English, so it's easy to follow along. There are a couple of highlights that we always enjoy: meeting... More

This is where I bring friends and family when I want to give them a overall view of haciendas, hennequen, cenotes and the Mayan people of the Yucatan. . The guides are friendly (keep some pesos for Antonio). It is a fun day. Go in the afternoon they are less busy but best to reserve via email as you have... More

Great hacienda perfectly renovated with the main house refurbished and with furniture from the late 1800's. The whole hacienda /farm part with 100's of acres of henequen plants with exploitation of the plant and its processing like 100 years ago is truly fascinating with all machinery of those times renovated and in full working order. Great visit including underground swimming... More

I was immensely disappointed with this trip. I was excited to see how hennequin was processed after learning of the wealth of Merida and seeing the Paseo de Montejo. I booked 3 trips with Mayan Heritage on Calle 62 in Merdia at the same time, including this one and I paid 725 pesos for the tour of Hacienda Soluta de... More

The food and the Margaritas were very good. The service was excellent, and the tour and guides were superb. It was really a delight to get away from the ruins and visit a hennequin plantation and become informed about an important piece of history in the Yucatan. the cenote swim was wonderful.

My sister and I took this tour after hearing about this "living hacienda" on past trips to the area. It was definitely a great experience and I would highly recommend making the day trip from Merida. The tour was very informative and fun. I particularly enjoyed the Mayan House and swimming in the cenote. After our tour we decided to... More

Interested in learning what life on a hacienda was like? Then you must visit Hacienda Sotuta de Peon located about an hour and a half drive from Telchac Puerto, just south of Merida. Your tour begins with a visit to the beautifully restored hacienda. Next you will visit the henequen processing plant and see the process of turning henequen into... More

A very well done tour of an immaculately maintained hacienda. The tour guides relay an in depth history that covers Mexico from the mid 1980s to the early twentieth century. Traditional sisal production still go on as this is a working plantation although most sisal production has moved to Brazil. A delicious 4 course lunch is also served. One of... More

This Hacienda is a lesson in history. They show you everything so you get an immersion in the history of the Hacienda era and the cultivation of sisal. Included is a tour of the plantation on their old narrow gauge rail and a lovely swim In a gorgeous underground cenote. A Mayan man talked to our group in Mayan about... More

On the advice of our host at Hotel Medio Mundo we drove out to this Hacienda. The direction signs are a little spotty. Clear for miles and then they disappear leaving you a little unsure. Have faith and you will get there. It is well worth it. It is the only hacienda that we have visited so comparisons are impossible.... More
