The hacienda has been the location of several film and television productions, and is featured in most travel guides. Its archives are frequently cited in historical texts and research. The Hacienda may be the best preserved but unrestored hacienda in the Yucatan. We've only visited 2 haciendas but we were told to visit this first as to not be disappointed when we visit the next one. The other hacienda was restored and made into a restaurant (Ochil). I was disappointed when we went to Ochil expecting it to be like Yaxcopoil except that it had been restored/taken care of better. But there... More

Thanks to my husband's perfect Spanish we were able to walk the entire grounds with a delightful caretaker who had worked the henequen processing from the age of 16 until it ended in the mid 80's. You can stroll the grounds and rooms independently or if you are lucky & know Spanish you can do as we did. The cost... More

One of the Grand Henequen (Sisal) Haciendas of the 19th Century. Partially restored as a museum. Understanding how Merida became one one the wealthiest cities in the world in the late 19th century requires some basic knowledge of how this plantations were brought to life and flourished. More

A beautiful restored hennequin hacienda with lovely grounds, interesting buildings, and great photo ops. A lovely place to spend an afternoon. About 1 hour south of Merida on a good highway with clearly marked signs. More

Luckly this hacienda has not been purchased by a foreigner, so it hasn't been turned into a fancy restaurant or expensive hotel. Although not falling apart, the main house hasn't seen a lick of paint in decades, original furniture and portraits welcome the few visitors who pass by on their way to Uxmal. The kitchen is great, so are the... More

We did 3 haciendas on our day tour and Yaxcopoil was the last. It's really huge, and although we weren't allowed into the back area(not staying at the guesthouse), the map on the wall in the great house gave us an idea how big the grounds were. I really wish we could have seen the entire grounds as wandering around... More

We really enjoyed our visit to the Hacienda Yaxcopoil. The guide was terrific so kind and helpful to explain us everythink about the Hacienda and how it worked when it was opened and in used so that you could daydream, imagining everything: the people, the animals, the machines... Honestly you'll probably find other Haciendas better kept than this one but... More
