Sprawling, expansive, amazing ruins. Once complete will rival Chichen Itza! Close enough to Merida where we found an amazing bed and breakfast called Flycatchers Inn and ate at a resturaunt owned by an awesme British lady called The Pickled Onion. Ruins are close enough to also see Sayil and Kabah nearby and Uxmal all in a day or two. Also,... more

Have visited this site 10-12 times. It is a place to visit on a weekday, as it is not crowded. Here, you can view the amazing construction, and only wonder how it was done. Many stones are cut at compound angles, with straight edges and sides. Weighing tons, they are placed next to adjacent blocks, with no gaps. You wonder... more

During our most recent trip to Mexico we were at both Uxmal and Chichen Itza. Both are fantastic but we enjoyed Uxmal much more although, as ancient Maya sites, they are comparable in many ways including size. We liked Uxmal because the crowds were small and there were no vendors selling the t-shirts and trinkets that we did not want.... more

This site is said by some, to be the largest urban center boasting examples of the best puuc style architecture. Situated in the Puuc Hills, and surrounded by other sites such as Sayil, Labna, Grutas Loltun, Kabah, and Xlapak, a journey through the Puuc Route makes for a few interesting days. (Mayapan is situated between Merida and Ticul, enroute to... more

It was so great to go to a place that still seemed sacred. There were no vendors trying to sell you their commerce amongst the ruins. I felt that I could roam around the complex and really capture the spiritual feeling of the place. It has such a great vibe. I recommend going there instead of Chichen Itza. more

I was there in January on a cruise. I on my own wouldn't have picked this as an excursion but my friend wanted to do it. Well it was great and I would go again with my family. I got some wonderful pictures. I really enjoyed it! I also heard from several people that it was even bettre than Chitza... more

Last week my boyfriend and I went to Uxmal as part of our trip in the Yucatan. We ended up with a really wonderful guide -- he was very knowledgeable and pointed out many small details in the ruins that we never would have noticed or understood on our own. He also told us where to sit during the sound... more

Unlike other Maya ruin sites in the Yucatan Peninsula, UXMAL is so grandious that it dwarfs such sites as Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum. Problem: getting there. Most travelers stay in Cancun and while the trip to Uxmal can be made in a day, a day is a wasted trip as nothing will be seen but the roadside land rushing... more

I agree with the others that Uxmal is a must-see. In fact I would say that I like it better than Chichen Itza. The huge number of tourists and vendors make Chichen seem almost like a theme park, whereas at Uxmal you truly feel the sense of adventure and mystery of exploring an ancient city. I had not been to... more

We saw several ruins on our vacation, but Uxmal was certainly the hilight. Not only is it an extremely old site (500BC) but you can actually climb the Great Pyramid while you are there. The Pyramid of the Magician was off limits as they were doing some work there but all of the other structures were accessible to us. If... more
