The cathedral doesn't open until 4pm, and it is FREE to enter. While it is the oldest cathedral in Latin America, it's biggest claim to fame is that it was constructed out of stones removed from the Mayan temples by the Spaniards. It certainly does not compare to the Old World European cathedrals in Spain, France and elsewhere. It's worth... More

The way it is lit up at night is just magical! but def venture inside and have a look around - it is a different looking cathedral than some of the others we came across on our trip around Mexico

Pretty church, but beware of the people standing out front charging for a tour. You can walk through the church for free.

This place is the one that holds the oldest cathedral in Mexico. The place is big, the inside dome is amazing but the simplicity of fhe building strikes when compared to other sites in Mexico that are full of figures, images, etc. It is located a few steps away from la Plaza Grande.

The interior is the same stone as the outside, but with interior lighting it seems to glow. If the doors are open, don't miss a chance to duck your head in to see the beautifully simple interior.

This cathedral is different from all the other churches we saw in Mexico, in that the interior is very plain and has little gold ornamentation. However, coming from England, with its large, and sometimes austere, cathedrals it felt quite comfortable. It is certainly awe-inspiring with high ceilings and a very large cross. Not worth visiting Merida just for this, but... More

Beautiful but simple. Holy Mass was great even in Spanish. The Cathedral is stunningly lighted at night. It is a shame that the street lights are so bright that they interfere with night time pictures.
