In the middle of the jungle, not touristy at all. Hidden gem. We went on a tour purchased at the Grand Mayan Hotel. More

We were very fortunate to visit Ek Balam in Dec. 2011 . It is about an hour and a half drive from Cancun. We were fortunate I rented a car and one of our Mexican friends drove us to Ek Balam. The best way to get there is probably to hire a Taxi should be around $75.00 U.S. per person... More

My husband and I hired a taxi driver to take us to Chichen Itza and Ek Balam for the day. It was great to be able to climb these ruins unlike the ones at Chichen Itza! We climbed the acropolis and we really enjoyed getting a closer view of these ruins. It was so hot but there is an amazing... More

If you like visiting ruins without the circus feeling of Chichen Itza then this is the place to go. And do not miss the Xcanche cenote just a short jungle bike ride away (they will even ride you on a transport bike for 4$...) More

Our research paid off when we, of course, decided to go to Ek Balam. These ruins may not be missed by any traveller, as they offer you all what you can desire. It is very close to Valladolid or Piste, so get up in the morning and be there at 8. am., then you will be almost alone so you... More

It is so wonderful that you can still climb on the ruins, and a certain times of the day you have the whole place to yourself. One word of caution. If you go back to the cenote watch your money closely. The locals have an awesome routine to steal your money. One plays lookout while you're swimming and the other... More

The best tour of ruins available. You can actually hike to the top of the temples. We took the combined Ek Balam and Cenote Maya tour with "Alltournative." Gordo Vargas is by far the best multilingual guide in Cancun. Make sure you take or wear swim wear for Cenote Maya More

It is a hidden jewel. Almost nobody goes there. There is a pirated that you can enter. Half hour from chichen itza. Very interesting. Hide a guide to explain the ruins. More

Our visit to Ek Balam was so worth the extra drive time. Our tour guide, Juan, was extremely knowledgable about the Mayan history and culture. He explained what the ruins were and how they were used when Ek Balam was a thriving Mayan city. The site is not heavily visited by tourist like Tulum and Chichen Izta so it was... More
